When my V4 went for its first service there were three recalls. Apparently that has grown to 5. Who knows today’s number! I’ve not bought a “new” new bike before but surely that isn’t normal (not even for Ducati)? Can’t help but wonder whether the V4 has been released before it was properly developed because the 1299 can’t meet emission rules.
5 is quite excessive I think, but the cost of development and certification for road use has for a while been putting manufacturers under pressure to release the bike as soon as they possibly can. There always going to be those recalls that come about because until the bike is out there on mass they just can't see how some parts are going to withstand the conditions. Without seeing the full recall list I'm not sure it's easy to say if it's rushed, if the recall list includes things like gearbox changes (R1) or wheel hubs, or major engine parts like water pumps etc then yes I would say rushed, if it's smaller software updates and brackets etc then I think it's one of those things with modern production. By the way, every time a new bike has been released from the 1098 when I first started coming on the forum, there has been one of these threads ;-)
Current list include changes to is I think software, clutch slave, fuel tank, side stand, number plate and I think coolant system (not sure about the last).
I think this is the case for most manufacturers these days. Taking into consideration the V4 is a brand new engine, it’s not surprising. I’ll always wait at least 6 months before buying a new model for this reason.
If it’s fixed FOC and apart from the hassle of bringing the bike back to a dealer who is miles away, I don’t see a problem. Better than ignoring any issues. It’s a V4 ffs, latest tech, expect some teething issues.
