V4 V4r Clutch Wear!

  1. Hi all,

not been on here for a while!
Just wondering how fellow v4r owners are getting on with their clutches? (Or anyone with a v4 dry clutch kit!)
Mine is in for its 2nd annual next week, have done 8.5k miles and it’s been used as intended! Love the bike it’s certainly a jump from the v4s. The aero works really well and it’s no surprise it’s filtered down the other v4s as it really does have an effect at speed.
With the race kit it revs forever and is properly ballistic:D
Anyway one downside to having so much power is it eats dry clutches for fun if you ring it out!
Note I have ebc engine braking on lowest setting which should help the clutch last longer than higher settings.
I’ll be getting my 4th clutch pack fitted next week along with a new basket!
I’ve got just over 3k miles out of each of my first 2 clutches, first was oem obviously, 2nd was from motorapido (I think similar to what they have used in Tommy Bridewell’s BSB bike).
3rd (current pack) was just the sintered plates and is ducabike. These haven’t last as long with under 2k miles on them :(
So going back to the Motorapido plate kit and a basket too as that was quite grooved when I put the last plates in (filed a little to smooth off). Have been getting quite a bit of clutch drag.

  2. Race clutches aren’t designed for road use (if that’s what you’re using it for mate).

even on track, they’re changed for EVERY race usually in bsb.

I was chatting to Shane Byrne about this a while back and Sam (who works for pbm). He/they were saying the Ducati’s eat clutches. Some of the kwaks etc were doing half a season on one clutch and the Ducati’s were replacing them every race

  3. I’m not knocking it! :) just sharing my experience. I used to do clutches in 1800-2000 miles on my old 998R, when carbon kevlar plates became available I get double that. Wonder why carbon Kevlar clutch plates are not available for the v4r?

  4. My memory from the first season with the V4RS is that the clutch wear was better than the 1199. My spare plates are from EVR. Andy
