https://www.ducati.com/ww/en/news/v...son-in-eighth-place-fifteenth-danilo-petrucci I think that it was not a bad year for Ducati. We can't compare it to 2019, but I think Ducati had a very good performance this year. Don't forget that there is a last race in Portugal in a few days. This race might change some things. Best wishes to Dovi and Petrucci.
I personally thought Ducati and their riders were dreadful this season with under par performance as a team effort.
Ducati have been woeful in how they develop the bike/rider relationship. Ducati and Yamaha have both been lucky to have good satellite teams to keep their rankings up.
I believe that their personal performance was very good this year. Andrea Dovizioso had a very good year, there's still a fight for a better position that he can win. Danilo Petrucci had a more mediocre year than Dovi, but his position isn't very bad and he can still give the last fight. As a team, their fight is on. They both expressed their desire to chase the third, even the second place, as a team. I still don't think that Ducati's year was bad.
It may be true, but, I don't focus on that side. The part that really interests me is the racing one. That's the only way I concern oneself with such a matter. However, I never said that you are wrong. Your view is truly remarkable and if we look it that way, both teams, Yamaha and Ducati should definitely change a lot of things on how they treat their teams.
What is your review for this year? Not just for Ducati, I would be really happy if you share your thoughts about the 2020's MotoGP with us.
Ducati have had a shocker, only bettered by the shocker for a Yamaha. Suzuki and KTM have made leaps and bounds over the last two years and this year has really shown that. Honda: one rider team that alas lost him early on. Some great racing. Won by the third or fourth best racer at best.
They’ve only raced at eight circuits this year instead of nineteen last year which has been an advantage for some and disadvantage for others. Whilst I agree Ducati have had a shocker of a season but had they travelled to Losail etc I’m sure they would have had better results overall.
Whilst I respect everyone is entitled to an opinion and it’s good to keep it on a good level don’t think I could agree with the Op any less. With the demise of the best MotoGP rider in the world, like him or not you have to respect his talent, Ducati had a clear opportunity to win the Championship. The results lately have been woeful save for Jack Miller last week. So they could have done something, why didn’t they before?Ducati are without doubt less competitive than in previous seasons. In fact of late pretty much all their bikes have been huddled at the back of the grid, save for last weekend where there was a glimmer of hope. Clearly Ducati have suffered because the circuits weren’t as beneficial for their point and squirt bikes. The time it’s taken to solve this mid corner speed problem is disappointing. I was only reading via this forum about chassis flex while cranked over and lateral rigidity while upright and how Suzuki had solved it. I suspect there’s a good deal of arrogance floating around the Ducati camp. I think they treat their riders badly and suspect they don’t give them what they ask for. Hence Dovi has just walked. The bike might have a fast engine but it needs to be a more rounded package. Suzuki have come in and developed a better bike in a short space of time. If this has been a good season for them I’d hate to see a bad one. In fact I’m gutted with their performance. Then they added the new V4 Multistrada to the equation.
If the multi performance is anything to go by no wonder they struggle. 170hp means more like 150rwhp when ktm and bmw and banging out much bigger numbers and as much or more torque it seems well documented ducati haven’t worked well with the new tyres, like BSB. But it’s probably their ‘this is how we do things’ stubbornness that stops them overcoming it
I think it’s been a disaster this year for Ducati especially PR wise.. While it’s good that it’s not been the MM show this year which has allowed other riders to show their best look at the amount of times the satellite teams have beaten the factory teams, especially true with Ducati. Also big names in pre Qualifying 1! I really don’t see Jack and Pecc making a difference at the Factory next year either.. I think there’s only a couple of guys who could deal with riding the factory Ducati and that’s MM Casey S Pol E and B Binder and possibly Millar though i feel he’s too much of a hot head still ? Suzuki have just been consistent really i mean who would win a title win (Mir) with just one win all season? KTM seem to be the bike to ride going forwards they really are bringing that bike onwards. also with VAG alledgedly wanting out too who knows where Ducati GP will end up.. X
Bagnaia has had a bit of a nightmare since he was announced as next years factory rider. Going well early on in the season but recently has hardly finished a race.
We definitely can not compare this year to those in past. Ducati had a series of standing at the top 3 winning teams the past years, something that, unfortunately, didn't happen this year. I rated Ducati's performance positively just because of the constructors' winning award. They had 13 years to win this title. It might happened because of Jack Miller's second place in Portugese GP, but it's still a win.
