View attachment 328276 Hello everyone and thanks in advance if anyone can help. I have measure the clearance today and I would like to have some confirmation and help on what shims I need to change. Bike is a ducati Multistrada 1200s years 2010. Engine is a Testastretta. Vertical Cylinder: the manual says for openers : Operation 0.13 to 0.18 checking clearance 0.10 to 0.25 closers : Operation 0.05 to 0.10 checking clearance 0.05 to 0.25 which one shall I change and by how much? Thanks. Edit I've updated the reading to the correct ones.
Looks like you could just box it back up and be ok on the checking clearances. However, if it were me, and assuming the engine is similar to the older desmodue and desmoquattro engines I typically work with, and road-use only, I think I would leave openers, replace the half-rings in the closers and remeasure. Any closer that did not drop to below .15 I would replace to get to below .10 and ideally .05-.08
What do you aim for when setting the correct clearance? For openers do you aim for 0.13 or 0.18 and for closer do you go for 0.05 or 0.10? thanks
You’re in spec on all gaps for checking. The measurements you list as “operation” are the assembly figures. The 2 closers you have at 0.2 ish, I’d consider tightening up. As Jon mentioned, installing new half rings could well be all that’s needed.
I've updated the reading to the correct ones. thanks for your replies. I'm thinking cause I've opened the bike so much by now, if i lift the covers of the camshafts to change the half rings or shims, what reading then should I aim for? Looser for high end for openers like 0.18 and tighter for closers like 0.05? Am i correct?
Ok. What I'm gonna do is to aim for all the closers to be 0.07 and all the openers 0.15. Any more information is welcomed.
