Tour planned down to Italy (again!), and we want to avoid riding across the top of France for the 4th time. I have found four companies who will transport our bikes down to Basel and meet us at the airport. Does anyone have any experience of using theses companies? Are they reliable, or any good? They are: Chas Mortimer Ltd. Driveukeuro Motorbikemoves Bussas49 Thanks for any advice.
next year we are hring a van to camp ,then ride italy lakes , approx 700 , for 3000 miles for 2 weeks
I was told this summer whilst staying on Lake Como that Chas Mortimer has a place down there somewhere.
Thanks - but we live in the deep south (on the coast) - so need to fly from Gatwick, Southampton or Heathrow at a push.
I used Chas Mortimer a few months back to transport a Guzzi that I bought in Italy, I have to say it was first class service and I would highly recommend.
My advice?Get rid of the car and buy yourself a combi/kombi/double-cab/whatever van,and look after your own bikes. A Combi is possibly the most usable and versatile vehicle on the planet...you can crash out in it/take your bikes in it/your crap to the tidy tip in it/party in it/etc/etc,they are not dear to run and even the very middle class families round here often have one on the drive. I've run,(different makes/models),continuously for years, don't know what I'd do without it tbh. And by the time you've been herded around the airport to get your flight you could be halfway there!
We expect to use VW crafter mwb, from eurohire, brighton , about £1000 for 2 weeks to italy , bike mts and camping gear
That's good they do motorbike mounts, most uk hire vehicles don't have the insides to take bikes properly
I have used "UShip" - which seems to be an off-shoot of Gumtree / EBay. It has worked nicely and I have had several quotes (6 actually), but I don't know the quality of the transporter......
