Hi, Wanting to protect the Panigale and have never bothered with this stuff before but as this is my new pride and joy was wondering what peoples thoughts, experiences with this stuff is Is it really DIY or are you better off paying to get it fitted for you Thoughts? Kwack
I fitted a kit to my friends Panigale. If you are patient it is not too bad but the sides of the tank are a pain as it angles three different ways as does the sides of the rear seat. I have done these before though so if you have never done it maybe you are better off getting it fitted, could work out cheaper than having to buy new bits when you lose it and roll the kit in a ball and throw it in the bin !! My friend also had carbon parts fitted which has a matte finish so you need matte ventureshield or it looks stupid with matte carbon and shiny venturshield. Another friend owns the area franchise for it which is why I have done it before and how I got a mixed finish kit. Plenty of water is needed as well as spotless hands or you will get fingerprints and dirt everywhere. A tip if you manage to get a couple of spare bits is to fit it to the gold fork stanchions but fit it dry. This stops all the stone chips that you normally get there.
Even though I have done dozens of dirt bike graphics fittings, I had mine fitted to 1098 professionally. The had to redo several areas a couple of times and the seat unit is still not 100%. Think it must be pretty awkward to handle in some of the weirder shapes and contours. Ian, I take it you know John? It was him that struggled with my 1098.
Given what youve spent already, i would pay someone. Patience and keeping the sheets well waterer with the soap solution means you usually get there but its tricky and one of those practice makes perfect jobs. A tank only kit is easy enough to do on most bikes tho. i can recommend a firm in warrington that did my bike.
I bought a kit for my 1198 and am a pretty patient guy, but with finally having to succumb to family pressures ended up rushing it a little, wasn't really happy with the final result so ended up getting a company in Brum to do it, but of course wasted the price of the first kit I bought as it was better for the company to (mostly) start again. If I was to have it done on another bike/car I would pay to have it professionally fitted in a heart beat, they also have the lighting setup to find bubbles etc, ie they have low level light tubes on the walls etc etc.
and it looks so easy on the videos Reckon patience, time and two kids are not a good combo to fit these so will make some enquiries on local places around herts to fit Cheers Kwack
It's easy to do badly and it's actually quite difficult to do correctly. I had mine applied to my Panigale by a guy from the company that manufactures it. Apart from one slight bubble on the tail unit (it's very angular), he did a perfect job and it cost about £100.
