Dare I mention this... Might get slated for worrying too much and asking too many questions. But on the run to work today I noticed the bikes vibrations are stronger than normal. My feet vibrate and 'tickle', eventually going numb after 5 minutes of motorway cruising. Same goes for my hands. I've done 3 trips on the bike today and all of them have been accompanied by high vibrations. What can I check to see what could be causing this? Chain? Bearings? Belts? It's odd... I don't know what to look for to see what could cause excessive vibrations. It's also worth noting this is my 4th Ducati, 2 748's, a 1098S and now this. I've done just over 2k miles in the 2 months of owning the Multi and I can tell you, it's not the usual v twin vibration. Well it is. But amplified.
Older 4-cyl bikes used to vibrate like buggery if the carbs went out of balance, could it be the throttle bodies out of synch?
Check there are no tight spots in the chain. At this time of year it will get a lot of crud thrown at it and, depending on your locality, salt.
Checked this morning, I adjusted the chain to have the tightest spot as the one accurate to the measurements, as I have done for years. It's still the same, maybe 2mm more slack since I last adjusted it (around 800 miles). The last time I felt a vibration like this throughout the rev range was when a crank split on my second 748S and caused the LH engine casing to split mid ride pissing oil all over my leg and rear wheel... Hence the worry now, as a 2 year old bike should not have that issue. It's odd that it's throughout the entire rev range, and the vibrations increase with the revs. So it can't be something like a chain, or calipers, it's something involving the engine. Or at least I think it is. A note I might add, is the suspension felt rather stiff this morning, even in urban mode. I could feel bumps alot worse than normal... something to note?
Get it to a dealer mate and get them to take a look, could be something silly but the fact that it follows engine revs points to something prior to the chain as that's not doing exact engine revs
I have spoken to a new dealership in Reading, Blade Ducati, not had any dealings with them and sadly I don't want to risk riding the bike to Moto Rapido in Winchester from Reading in case there is something internally wrong. Quick one... Is it unheard of for the suspension to be 'stuck' in a certain mode? This all happened after I had a blast in sports mode. This morning, the power was correct to the urban and touring mode (I mix between these 2 on my commute) but the suspension still felt fairly solid, I especially realised this when going over bumps I go over every day, they were much harsher... If the suspension was 'stiff', could this increase feedback through the pegs, handlebars and seat? To the extent I'm describing.
I'm no expert but the suspension is taking up road vibration all the time so if the compression for example had locked up u may well have those symptoms. Ps... My best mates girlfriend is the service manager there, she is a lovely lass and will do her best to help u I am sure.
I do believe I spoke to her earlier then... Yea, very helpful, I asked a chap for some servicing prices, she called back to tell me the system is down and was unable to give me a price until it's back up and will call later. I'm going to go for a ride at lunch, going to pop home. I will test the bike then, by putting it into sports mode then urban. I will see if I can feel a difference, which I should. If not, then that will be the issue.
I solved all the problems with mine, I sold it and got a new GS, oh but wait, shock horror it's not a Ducati no, but damm it's flipping GREAT! Go get some.
Only thing that would worry me with blade is they ain't been a dealer long and when I spoke to them didn't really seem to know much about ducatis I would suggest ringing snells and asking to pick it up for you in their van to give it the once over
Could be the suspension ECU has gone. I believe they stay in one mode when that happens but those who have had this issue will know more.
