Anyone been and in particular have you been to Ho Chi Minh City? SWMBO fancy going next year and there is a good deal at the moment on a 12 day trip out there (4 days city and 8 days at the beach). Thoughts and comments please.
maybe thats not the best of colour scheme choices considering recent history,, maybe some long memories !!
yeh as above, get her to watch the top gear vietnam episode, showed both good and bad sides lightheartedly.
I went last year and had a fantastic time . Ho Chi Minh was our last stop and to be honest probably the worst part of the trip as it felt quite westernised . Still worth couple of days there and the war museum is a must. It can get very humid there so check before you book. Hanoi was fantastic as was a smaller town called Hoi An. We stayed in a hotel near there called the Nam Hai, a jaw droppingly wonderful place to stay. Expensive but worth it. Part of the Top Gear footage was shot there. If you go you may recognise the swimming pools. Definitely a country I`d visit again . If you want any more info send me a pm.
Life's an adventure. Just frigging get in with it and book it, find out for yourself. You won't actually know if it's a good deal until you go and test it for yourself. There, sold it for you?
I have a mate who has just moved to Vietnam from London. I am going out to do a two week ride North to South with him next year. I'll take a look at the Top Gear episode - thanks for the pointer!
Was there in September. Some still call it siagon, but the government doesnt. We loved the place. Make sure you get the visa. Its busy, noisy, cheap. Stay in the District that has the shows, musuem etc. Its central, but taxi are usually about 30,000 about £1 for most places. Scooters are cheap so everyone uses them. Don't think about driving there. Cross the road with purpose, don't stop, they will ride around you. I liked the people, friendly. I will go back, but its changing and changing fast. A lot development going on, but still poor in some areas. Humid and can get heavy rain. If your in ho chi, the airport is 10 minutes to the city centre. Flight up to hanoi is about £100. The delta area is nice. It can get really busy with tourists. I'd go back tomorrow.
