Just bought an old Hacker valve record player (made in the 1960's). I remember a similar one in use at my junior school, when the headmaster made us listen to Holst's Planet Suites. On the off chance, does anyone know of someone capable of servicing it preferably in the north of England - it's been in storage for many years ?
Check out guitar players/shops in area, retro/vintage valve amps are used a lot so they'll know your local tech.
Yes a friend of mine has a business that deals in old record players/HiFi systems - not sure if he deals with valve stuff but call him. His name is Griff. Hi Fi Sound
I've got an old Pye Black Box from the '40's. When I got it I found a shop in Dursley, Gloucestershire that stock virtually all the parts for it and other old players. Not very close to you, I know, but I'll try to dig up the details, he could be useful, very nice friendly bloke. As an aside, I tried to flog my record player on ebay. Some geordie woman wanted it, and against my better judgement I had it delivered to her. When it arrived Parcel Force had damaged it, and she tried to claim I mis-sold her the piece. Anyway, she sent it back and they did a better job this time, smashing the lid off and damaging the turntable. I claimed from them twice, got £200 and the record player back, plus postage costs. She got her money back. However I'm convinced the buyer did some of the damage herself just to avoid paying for the piece, because she didn't want to return it at first. Lesson learnt, at least I ended up in pocket over it!
Thanks Guys, I've just found a guy in Bolton who does it (Mike) from one of the vintage record player forums, so I'm gonna drop it off (not literally) today.
