Voltage on 749/999

  1. Just a quick one, as anyone ever noticed what voltage shows on your 749/999?

Mine always seems a bit low, with lights on on idle sometimes drops as far as 12.8v but normally on lows 13v, switch lights of and high 13v, but even with lights of its stays at mid 13v, and its the same while riding.

Please help as its driving me mad.

I have already checked the whole loom for corrosion on plug connectors, checked for voltages at battery in case it gives a different reading to the cluster, a couple of months had a battery and I just put a brand new voltage regulator on it.

    Cheers in advance ;-)

  2. Nothing to worry about, my 748 runs just about identical to that.13.6 at the battery without lights and 13.2 with lights dropping slightly on ticker.

  3. re-assurance from Birdie then R - if you have thoroughly checked all charging related leads then you can't have much to worry about with new battery and regulator as well. Had you been having charging/starting problems up to now?

  4. My 749 when riding is about 13.8-14.0 lights on all the time

  5. I have the hod starting issue but i also disconnected the alarm to see if that cures that bit.

  6. 13.8 here

  7. I rarely get high 13s :-/
might put it back together and keep a eye on it now i done all the work and fitted new regulator

    cheers guys

  8. got 13.7 on the way home

  9. Ok good news I think lol
Just been out to put some fuel and a little run and at normal speed bang on 13.6 so I can leave with that, on idle it's a completely different ball game, started bike at at some point was at 14.2 but pretty quick dropped and with lights on had 13.2 but it's very unstable as one min is high 13 one is low 13. Just going to leave it and see how it goes.
Cheers guys and see you all soon

  10. I have never had below 14.2 on my 999.........

  11. It all depends on the state of the battery. A good fully charged battery will not require 14v ish.

  12. I agree Ghost as my battery is brand new and was fully charged yesterday, not optimate or anything like that I gave her a good old proper charge ;-)
One thing I noticed is everyone gets different values so take a pic  lol

  13. My 2003 999-at idle with lights on 14.2v and lights off 14.4v i put new battery on in February this year.

  14. The other day on a long run one thing I noticed was more I rode it more the voltage drop, then it didn't matter light on of always the same, when i got home left it switched of for a little while then started again bang straight to 14.1v.
When I replaced the battery I fitted a Bosch AGM. So might just put the old one and see.
AGM batteries are different so might be causing the funny readings, another thing to try I guess

  15. Afternoon people

Been out on the bike today and she was spot on, she`s been sitting in the garage for a week and not only she started fine and that unheard after a week without charging the battery, and on the whole ride the voltage stayed at around 13.6v the whole way , with the lights on ;-)

So im just going to leave it now and keep an eye on it.

On the last post I said i was going to put the old battery on but didnt bother in the end

Cheers guys for help and info

  16. Good Job R!

  17.
  18. I have 999s 2006 and I have the same symptoms, sometimes from 13,7 go for 10 secs 41.1
Finally the problem was the battery or something else like regulator?

  19. So your voltage jumps up to 41.1v???

  20. Typo - 14.1v ???
If so, hardly a great concern imho
