I have a Hypermotard 821 and I'm thinking of part-ex in for a 749s. I know there isn't much in it with power but as anyone ridden both?
Comparing apples to oranges. For road riding and fun factor I would take the 821...for "investment" and looks I would go for the 749S. Horsepower is just a figure at higher revs...821 has more usable torque low down. Just my two pennies' worth.....
With regards to the 749s try to find a version 2 with the black swingarm. I had a 749s many years ago and always felt it was a bit of a let down from Ducati’s side calling them an S. No Ohlins front or rear suspension and not much difference from the standard version. Maybe try the 999s instead.
I think they both have roughly same hp no? you are right that the 821 would have more torque being slightly bigger cc.
I know figures don't tell the real story as the hyper feels much faster than 110. hyper 110hp@9250 - 89nm@7750. dry 171kg 749s. 110hp@10500 - 78nm@8500. dry 186kg
If my memory serves me correct I think the base model had about 108 bhp and the s about 116 bhp. I sold mine as I always thought it was not that quick and changed it for a 999s which was so much better.
