Vulcavite

  1. Not often that I add anything much to the cleaning discussion, but here's something:

Are any of you using Vulcavite tissues to clean their bike? I have just tried a couple that a friend gave me. It is supposedly a product that just cleans everything, from bugs to grease and shines as it goes. Well, with a miracle product of this type you want to watch out for potential downsides. It might be aggressive, although it is touted as being very ecological.

Certainly, my whizz around with the tissues was pretty impressive, So does anyone have any experience of this product? If not, it might be worth trying to get some.

  2. Used them for last two years :awesome: swear by them

  3. They look very useful Glid. I don't have a source of water where I keep my bike so they could be a very good solution.

There only appears to be 2 retailers of the wipes in the whole of the U.K atm, presumably this is a new product?

  4. For a long time they were advertising this for half price at Infinity. Searching their site turns up nothing now.

  5. @Char
No sign of them with that link. Putting 'Vulcanet' into their search facility no good either!

Sound like something Spock would use lol

  6. Lol maybe they've stopped - they were 1/2 price for ages lasted a year - I've got a tub anyway

  7. I value my life, so I'm not going to make any reference to women and cleaning products...

  8. They are a French product, and not particularly new. I suspect they have been developed by people who are better at chemistry than creating sales networks and marketing. Should be available over the web, or someone will post them to you. I am comforted by Char's comments. They might just be as good as they appear.

Friend who uses them says that a tub lasts about 2 years. They don't contain alcohol, he says, so they dry out more slowly, but in the tub they keep for years anyway.

  9. Sure they look great and all, but personally wouldn't use them on a dirty bike. Picking up all the grit/dirt and basically turning it into sandpaper, nice to rub all over your paint work!

  10. What's wrong with normal wet wipes?

  11. I use baby wipes from Lidl, the ones for sensitive skin, naturally. They are excellent for cleaning brake dust off wheels & will even shift chain lube. Really good for removing squashed insects from leathers & helmets (headwear version) as well.

  12. Have tried the Vulcanet wipes after a Monster owner with a bike that was in the custom display at a previous WDW said he used them - if they're good enough for him and his very shiny bike, I thought I'd risk them on mine. Was pleasantly surprised with the effect on my filthy bike, but not so great for my hands.

  13. Yes, I sort of noticed that if they dissolved all sorts of grease and road crud, they might also dissolve my hands. Probably best to use with the Marigolds.

  14. Don't ask me I know nuffin about cleaning :Wtf:

    Hands never suffered mind you

And no I've never experienced the sand paper effect - if bike really cruddy then I wash first and use these to get rid of anything left

  15. That's exactly how I would go about it.
Not a substitute for soap and water, but a very useful adjunct.
