Has anybody got or experience of using a wall mountable fan heater in the garage? i use a home gym which is in my garage and the weather has finally got to that ice cold winter stage where it's bloody Baltic in my garage in the early hours of the morning. ideally I'm thinking of getting a wall mountable fan heater and put it on a timer to start at 5.30am ish (give or take) so it takes the edge off before I head in there. Now obviously I keep my bikes in there too so whatever I use I'd rather it be up out the way on the wall so god forbid anything goes wrong with it the only thing it's near is brick. Just want something inexpensive which will do the job and preferable heat forwards and not straight down, may also come in use for cold garages at track days
You can get small wall mounted panel heaters from City Electrical Factors, various sizes, some with just a thermostat, some with a built in timer. I'd recommend a simple floor-standing fan heater though. You can still control it with a 13a plug-in timer but they're better if you need to aim the hot air around the garage. Greenhouse tube heaters are quite handy too, again they can be controlled via a plug-in timer. I leave a 600mm one under the bike when temperatures stay sub-zero. If you're planning something a bit more permanent, Sangamo do a good timer, the PSD, available direct from them, about £40+vat. Dead easy to wire up and programme, certainly the best timer I use for that sort of thing. LIDL Bought one of these to heat the garage, looked like a good deal. If you see something chargrilled and crispy fly past your window, it might be me popping by for a cuppa!
