899 Want Vs Need

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by camelfarmer, Nov 6, 2016.

  1. So it's been about a month since I got the 899 and I've got used to it and had time to think about stuff I'd like on it. It's completely stock as of now.
I have to differentiate between things I'd like on the bike in a if I won the lottery kind of way, and things that would actually make it better.
I use it for pootling around into town, and some fun weekend A road type stuff. I plan to try a track day in spring and see how I get on with that. I am definitely a novice. And I need it to stay as a 2 seater cause I have the girl on the back quite a lot. She's looking to do her licence in spring too, so I don't wanna waste money on gold wheels and shit cause we might be looking to buy her a bike in a few months.
Anyway, your advice and input is appreciated.

    Things I want -

    1. Grips. Renthal seem to be good but are butt ugly.
    2. Bar ends. Just for bling.
    3. Rear sets. I do want adjustable ones but bloody hell the good ones are expensive.
    4. Termis. Just for fucks.
    5. Mg forged gold wheels. Clearly vital.
    6. Grippier seat? I slide around in my leathers quite a bit but I'm getting better at using my thighs and feets.
    7. Illegal headlights to match the LEDS. Will probably get them cause theyre cheap.
    8. Levers?
    9. Tail tidy with smaller LEDS?
    10. ECU upgrade rapidbike type job?

I think I only actually need the grips and perhaps the rearsets.

    Any suggestions/comments/ 2 centseses?

  2. To be honest you don't really 'need' anything, they're stonking out of the box.

Different pegs border on the need side tbf, the standard pegs are shite

  3. Grips = Progrip. Much nicer than Renthal.
Seat = Race seat or comfort seat. Both add about an inch to the height.
    The rest? Bling! :)

  4. Progrip grips
    Race seat
    Oberon pegs

The rest is fluff and don't bother with Termis if you want to try a track day.

  5. Progrip grips vote here too.

Althoug both comfort and race start higher, you sink into the comfort back down to about the same level as standard. Try both out first if you can, because it is really just personal preference.

Not sure what the throttle is like, but 959 and 1299 both benefit from the thrills spacer kit.

Possibly worth getting the radiator protector guards, but again this is up to you.

You can swap your rear indicators for the ones off of the 1199, which are much smaller, but the same shape.

  6. Replace the rear shock
Made a world of difference & improved the handling no end
    Best upgrade in my opinion

  7. Thanks everyone will look into the pro-grip.

I think I do that and the tail tidy with the smaller LEDs to begin with. The rearsets haven't bothered me apart from the upshift being too long with race boots on. That is a bit of a safety issue when you're pinging it and can't shift up when you want to. Takes attention away from the road and hits the rev limiter as well.

Hoping the girl goes bike mental and ends up getting a 600 or something tbh.

  8. Have you tried relocating the lever up, or down on the gearbox shaft's splines? It may just be the world of difference you're looking for...

  9. I went for CNC Racing rearsets for that very reason

  10. As stated you don't need anything but if it were me (using it on track) I'd fit some good pads some track tyres and up grade the suspension, dont worry about bolt on tat. Oh and forged wheels would be a good shout.

  11. Best mod (and most expensive) I've done by miles is lighter wheels. Rearsets are a good option as well. I have a new rear shock being fitted tomorrow and hoping for good things.
Best value mods I've done are Progrips and throttle spaces.
I have a race seat which isn't as slippery as the original. I think recovering the original seat with a grippier material would also be a good option.

  12. Progrips - Throttle Spacers - Performance Seat - Evotech Tail Tidy - EBC HH Pads - Milled Pegs. All recommended.
I fancy a set of Termi's but I would anticipate problems at any UK track event.
Carbon bits - nice but you'd spend a small fortune buying the decent stuff.
I'd rather have performance/function over bling.
Good luck with whatever you go for.

  13. MCT shock rebuild

  14. Nitron rear shock is my vote . . . . And the suspension setup correctly. . . With a set of supercorsa's . . .

  15. they made my DTC spit the dummy at Silverstone because of the different profile shape.

  16. Just going from experience.... Swapped the ohlins out on my rsv4 factory for a nitron... Marked improvement... Then swapped the stocker out on my Z1000 for an r3... What a difference..

  19. I won't be buying any carbon anything cause it's a waste of time, except for the bst wheels but I can't afford those anyway.

Only got the grips and the headlights so far. Gonna take it slow as I won't be doing much riding over winter anyway, just an hour or two a week to keep it ticking over.

  20. Difficult thread this one as all my wants turned into needs after to much red wine ☹️️
