Hi folks, many posts here about trying to get the right personal setup on the mts. I’m still pursuing a screen that works for me. Now looking for a Touratech touring screen for the late model 1200s, according to Touratech they fit the 1260 fine, just not licensed to say so. Anybody tried one and it didn’t work for them? I’d be happy to take it off your hands in exchange for some folding drink vouchers. Cheers
I order one new from Touratech in my search for a decent screen on the proviso that I could return it if it didn't work for me. Short story; it was sent back. IMHO, your mileage may vary though, it didn't help significantly with the buffeting. I'd also ordered the lightly tinted version, which is fairly dark, and in low light it was a bit disconcerting given how much of the forward view it made difficult to see well. It was a pretty short test ride and I had to keep the protective film on, their request. Wound up using the std screen with Iconic screen Spacers having tried a number of screens. For me this was the best, though not perfect, solution. Is a very subjective topic, what works for one individual doesn't necessarily work for others.
Thanks for the info, totally agree, very personal setup as we’re all a bit different - fortunately I’ve tried spacers on the std screen, puig with the aerofoil thing on it, my biggest problem is when I’ve got the comms in a Shoei Neotec II there’s a slight bump on the left hand side where the controls are. I think it’s the way the air comes up around the bottom of the screen causes a very loud rushing sound over the controls. Put my hand over or take them out and it’s ok, as silent as you’d expect that helmet to be.
The dirty air is caused by all the kit on the bars. Best i can get it is puig screen with air flow spoiler and Palmer products screen mount. The Palmer part makes it infinitely adjustable, great bit of kit.
I agree, think it's the narrow 'waist' on the lower part of the screen and that's dictated by the bars and their range of movement. All aftermarket screens have to have this too, they need to or the bars would interfere. Hence different screens don't change the buffeting that much. There are the Iconic deflectors, which appear to try and address the airflow at this waist, haven't tried them though. The screen spacers move the screen away from the rider and the fairing/bars, angling away, and moving the trailing edge, where the turbulence occurs, away from the rider's head. That's my take on it anyway.
I’m still a fan of the Wunderlich deflector on longer trips. Short Pikes peak for normal everyday riding
Thanks for the tip on the Palmer mount, I’ll try that next, as I already have have the puig spoiler, half the price of trying the Touratech screen!
A few great things to try next, think I’ll try the Palmer mount, if that doesn’t work the iconic winglets look interesting, the wunderlich looks like it’s like the aero foil on the puig but on steroids! Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and setups they use.
