  1. Just pottering about with the 996 yesterday ( didnt go out as I was training ) me and emm had been out the day before on a fairly hefty blast , bike on the stand and I've glanced at the rear wheel nut on the sprocket carrier( left ) hmmmm that's odd that doesn't look done up???? Yup it was on the last few threads!!!!!! The previous boyo had a wee bit of lock wire around the clip so I thought it was secure ......err no!!!! Where the pin sits in the groove hole it was clearly not!!!!!!! Fackin ell.....it's now torqued up and the pin is in and zip tied along with the other side ( not loose but with the same shit lock wire job ) made me jumpy I can tell ya , that would of potentially caused a catastrophic failure had it worked its way off ..... I'm using it to get to Salisbury on Thursday !!!!!!!! check your bikes over boys and girls especially if you've just got it ..........

  2. One of the biggest risks of going to see a bike, buy it and ride home.

  3. this used to be a regular feature on my first 916, but on the wheel side..it would regularly undo itself even when torqued to specs, threadlocked, lockwired and zip tied...
i noticed the bike crabbing a little, so i looked the bike over and it had become loose...literally finger tight...i removed the wheel to see the locating lugs on the hub were shiney and had left smaller deposits of glitter in the locating holes on the wheel. Luckily these didnt appear to elongated, but a check with a micrometer may have said different...i regularly check the wheel nuts on my current 916 (which ive owned for about 8 yrs) and havent had a repeat of this incident..i think that once the wheel or locating studs on the hub have become loose and worn that they are more prone to loosening in the future...

Thanks for the heads up and reminding us all to check over our bikes..Ducatis certainly arent the easiest machines to live with, and require meticulous attention to detail..
