Warning: Hypermotard 821 Ducati Top Case Flawed Design...

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by JIMMYRAY31B, Sep 26, 2016.

  1. When I bought the Ducati Top Case for my Hypermotard. Right away I had concerns about the the product and the poor design flaw on how the top case is mounted to the bracket. Well, that concern became a reality two nights ago, and almost a disaster for my wife. My wife was the passenger/pillion and when I was accelerating from a round-a-about, I felt my wife almost fall from my bike. Luckily she was able to grab my jacket and I her left leg before she came off. I didn't realise it at the time, but the top case had broke off almost sending my wife with it down the Motorway.

For those that don't know, for some reason the top case slides into place from the rear of the bike and is only fastened by one plastic fastener at the rear. I've always thought the top case should slide on from the front of the bike towards the rear. You now with how gravity and the force of wind and all that it would make sense for the case to mount from the front and not the rear.

It concerns me that this is such a huge flaw(IMO) and want to let others know. Hopefully I can make an official complaint about the product and go from there.

Bottom of the top case, you can see the inky fastener that holds the case in place which broke off.

  2. Maybe fabricate a proper metal back-rest, that still allows for a top-case to be fitted.
