Waterproofing Cables

  1. [IMG] The various cables and connectors behind the headlight and below the instruments on my Mobster 750ie seem very exposed and vulnerable to getting wet. Is this normal or have they been moved from their proper positions? Also, what is the best thing to use to replace the electricians tape wrapped around the cables going into the instrument cluster?

  2. I have always used Self Amalgamating tape ( over normal electrical tape if exposed wires ). Never had a problem where I have used it and easy to ( carefully ) cut off.

  3. Or just give them a spray with ACF-50 or similar to waterproof them:):):upyeah:

  4. The block connectors are sealed & waterproof, however the bullet connectors aren't, like others have said self amalgamating tape or silicon grease would do the trick.

  5. Water alone will not necessarily harm or short 12 volt wires and will dry off when riding due to the wind.
If you seal them up completely then there is always the chance that some moisture will get into them but not air, it will leave the cables in a still damp area liable to corrosion.
I would go down the ACF-50 route myself.

  6. Thanks everyone for your advice. Self-amalgamating tape and AC-50 will be bought this weekend.
