Website Price Match Promise? Hmmm, Sure It Is

  1. Ok, so I was trawling the tinterweb a couple of weeks ago looking for some Dainese textile trousers, I came across a particular well known Motorbike site offering to price match and/or beat competitors by 10%.

They specifically say they'll even match eBay sellers and European sellers as long as they're genuine shops, again it's a brave statement but that's their call to say it.

I thought ok, that's fair enough but as they also offer 0% over 6 months I might also add a Drift Ghost HD to the order along with loads of accessories to make it worth everybody's time, I thought that was fair enough as I appreciate there's only so much margin in motorcycle clothing.

So, two weeks ago I sent them in two web links to both items, got the first reply back pretty quick and I'll admit it was my mistake as the Dainese European seller wasn't actually European, instead of being what I though were a Spanish outfit (Motocard) they are in fact from Andorra, so I got a geography lesson :)

Fair enough, I apologised for even submitting that and then quickly pointed out the listing from a well known uk store on eBay instead and the original Drift listing, easy you would have thought? Nope

During the course of the next 10 days or so they emailed me every other day saying they've been really busy and hadn't had time to look at my email yet, I thought fair enough although didn't quite understand how they'd have time to tell me that and so regularly without actually reading the email they were replying to.... Never mind, I was happy to wait as technically the Drift was only added as a gesture and because of 0%, if I just wanted the bloody trousers I'd of bought them ages ago from Motocard.

So, the 10 days pass and then got an email asking was I still interested in doing the deal, of course I said, no problem, next thing he emails me and says they can't price match as both listings I'd sent them were now out of stock...... Obviously they weren't at the time and were still for a week or more after I submitted them.....

At this stage I thought he's having a laugh with me the bugger, so instead of just walking I thought nope..... I'll keep going as it's obviously a big game now :)

So, quickly submitted two other stores (I had a list of about 10) , sent him yet another two links, one for the Dainese and one for the drift.... Guess what..... Email silence for another few days.

Just had a response from him, guess what......would you believe that they can't price match as one of the links I'd sent are now showing out of stock...pmsl

I've given up now as I can't be arsed, it has been amusing though to witness the brilliant stalling tactic, my hats off to them :)

I shall now go back to my list and buy the bloody trousers, good job it's been dry this last few weeks when I've ridden :)

  2. Sounds like a classic case of "ours are half-price (when we haven't got any)"
