I have a very strange problem regarding my indicators. The regulator / rectifier has been changed about 6-8 months ago as it had problems since it had cooked itself after 16 years of use. Anyway, the problem is that my indicators stop working when the bike gets hot, but only on traffic or town. If I have a temperature reading of 80c on the motorway the indicators work perfectly but in town, they work sometimes but most of the time not. Could this be a battery related issue? Bike starts very good, cold or hot and has no other issues with electrics at the current moment, also the indicators work perfectly when the bike is not on proper operating temps.. I have LED-indicators if that matters. Also, the problem was already on the bike before the reg/rec was changed to a new one. This has bugged me for quite a while. If anyone has good ideas what the problem could be i would highly appreciate it! Thank you! -V
If you had the problem even bore the rectifier was changed then it's nothing to do withe the rectifier. From your description it could be that there's a short happening only when some particular wiring gets warm / hot. Motorway airflow could be keeping the wiring cool enough. I would check all wires leading to the indicators especially where the indicators are connected to the main loom, as you say they have been replaced at some point. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Check the relay by the battery they have a habit of coming lose or getting wet could be playing up when it's hot? ?
Thank you for the ideas and quick responses, have to check those points! I also suspect the wiring could get too hot at some place without the cooling wind. I did however try to insulate them somewhat before, but it has not been effective so far. -V
