V4 Well Its Over For Me .

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Captain, Jun 24, 2023.

  1. Sad day , but due to a week away with the wife she decided the V4s is not the bike she need for the 2 up and coming tour we have planned . The issues were the comfort , space , vibes . Not like the Gs she said.
So , just ordered the Ultimate 100 Gs as we have always worked as a team , such a pity as one up the MultiV4 is a cracking bike and I will miss it very much.
I am sure that this is not the case for many but old ground is sometimes the best ground for a touring couple. Bike is going to trade in next friday , but will be taking off all the extras which includes sat nav , comfort high seat , black screen and winglets , full Ducati Aluminium paniers and top box and frames . Various Evotech bits and the recent engine protectors.
Well its been a joy , but as life goes on sometimes its not all about me its about us going forward to the next chapter.

  2. We went the other way, GSA to V4S. There is no doubt both bikes have pros and cons, I miss the fuel range and shaft drive or more accurately I still don’t like the chain.

Having good dealer support is also key. BMW lost their way in our area when CW stopped, Bahnstormer and Dick Lovett didn’t cut the mustard. Hopefully the New dealer at Brockenhurst are better, certainly heard positive news.

Snells are great so Ducati is in good hands and I’ve had great service from Bournemouth Ducati.

    good luck with the Change.

  4. Yep, been there, done that.

I so much wanted to love my Multistrada, but my Ducati memories were on their sportbikes, not tourers and still believe the best tourer is the GS.

I'd say the best of both worlds is offered by the Pikes Peak, but I had a word with myself and accepted as I get older, I just don't use a bike the way a PP should be used, so went back to GS.

The way the GS is going, new 1300 with radar etc and god knows what else, I'd say the V4 will see a lot more new customers.

  6. Bit of a dramatic thread title for a change of bike lol.
Why don’t you get your mrs to pass her test, problem solved :)

  8. Seems you would have a mindset to win over but I hear the V4 rally has a longer pillion perch/rear subframe?

  9. Hi swopped bikes with my mate in the highlands the other day for about 20 miles . he has the 1200gs . Kept it spinning in 3rd and 4th gears and it was a sporty ride (in Dynamic) . the fun factor was just as good as riding my V4s. The difference I found was that the pegs on the Gs were slightly higher, so not quite as comfortable. The suspension on the Gs which I have always rated was good , but the multi is better. The quick shifter is similar on both bikes; but the multi is better. when we discussed each others bikes, it was unanimous, that the multi was better. Now his was not the 1250 Gs and neither of us had a passenger. Captain may find that his memories on his Gs could be through rose coloured spectacles, but I'm sure they will both be happy on the Gs

  10. Well , I ride with several GS s and to be fair the gs is no slouch in the right hands , more torque and smooth , the V4 is agreed faster but you need to ride it like a 2 stroke , on the power way up in the revs , get that wrong and the gs is still up your arse . The fact that 2 up it struggled confused me . I know the Hs is a great bike and looking forward to get that lazy comfortable ( pillion friendly) power back . It’s a hard one to call as the the V4 over say 120 does have the edge , but that edge is always , I feel , hard to get to on a constant basis . Now don’t get me wrong , I still love the V4 but as the OP says , is a couple thing. To add , I was quick on the GS and the V4 up to 120 , the V4 then came into its own , but with the roads I like to ride , 120 down a 4 numbered B road is fast enough .

  11. How much do you want for the black screen and winglets? Do you have a link to which ones they are?

  12. I will be stripping the bike this week and will post the parts then ,

  13. Or tour solo.

  16. Well , one clock is ticking a bit faster than mine , so make fun whilst we can .
I feel the decision is the right one , if it was just me , well …… but it’s not

  17. No harm in getting the bike that’s the right all round package for you, Dave. It’s a shame the V4 hasn’t worked out, but the GS is a cracking bike, you know how many I’ve had!

  18. Bikes are ace, whatever their flavour and very few are anything but great fun but just sometimes in different ways.

I believe there are some decent buys on the current GS with the new 1300 imminent.

    Enjoy.

  19. I spent the whole eurotunnel talking to an Irish couple on a Harley. Normally Harley riders are the biggest pricks you’ll ever meet, but these guys were brilliant.

  20. I went to the ABR festival yesterday. Fuck me there were some nerdy bikers there and not in a particularly good way. Twats on KTMs riding around standing up ALL the time thinking they looked cool but actually looked like massive bell ends to me.
But it’s bikes and for every bell end there are ten decent bikers.
