Hi All, Doing my 3rd trackday this weekend.... at Donnington (first time!) yaaaaay!!! but forecast is pretty sh*te....boooooooo So my question is..... best value rain oversuit... what do you guys use? is it worth paying 120 for a race oversuit? what other options are there (am guessing standard waterproofs will just flap/ride up/ get annoying?? I would man up and just get wet but but seeing as I live in Bournemouth and will be riding to the track from a local B&B and then home after I'd rather not do the 3 hour trip home soaking wet and cold... What do you guys think?
No, just cheapy one peice oversuit is perfect for what you will need. Something you can use on the road too
dont listen to Bradders he'd ride round in bin bags sellotaped together to save 50p, his idea of Goretex socks is a plastic bread bag and an elastic band. I used a 'Johnny Jacket', Motrax Jonny Jacket Automatically Unlinked | Demon Tweeks Tight fitting so no fluttering at all BUT a bit of a pain in the arse to get on because of the 'nappy' bit. Found it easier to put the Johnny Jacket onto my leathers first, then step into them both together.
I use golf weather proofs. Trousers usually have a zip up the leg which makes them easier to put on wearing boots. Usually buy from an outdoor type shop and can get them for less than £40. Andy
Thanks chaps, im gonna have a look around and probably got for a decent top like the one @Drinky mentioned and some cheap troosers... The race suit seems a bit overkill the only way I'll be getting my knee down if it's pissing down is if the rest of me follows it!!
I must admit I'm Thinking of removing the armour from my textiles and maybe using that on top... Just think the top will certainly be a bit restrictive as it's quite a sporty fit (read... I've put on too many pounds) as it is... What I really need to do is buy a trailer I guess and then I can drive there and back like most other people and not give a shit if it rains or not.... But tbh riding there is part of the fun for me as I don't have all the gear anyway and I'd be more paranoid of the bike falling off the trailer...
I wear one of these over my leathers if it's wet. Easy enough to get into (easier than my leathers anyway) and stiff enough not to flap around Go easy at Donny in the wet Waterproof FOX FLUID MX CLEAR · Motocard United Kingdom
I've ordered a 1 piece set from sportsbikeshop yesterday so am praying it arrives before Friday... Otherwise could be a rather soggy day!! Thanks for the tips though, @graeme4130 that top looks a bargain!! Hopefully the DUK day next month is a bit drier! Apart from not falling off, any tips for Donny? Melbourne loop looks interesting... Especially in the wet! :fearscream:
Just take it steady, and set your tyre pressures accordingly as I assume you'll be running road tyres without warmers. Donnington' quite open, so it'll dry out quite quickly Craners is the corner that catches the most people, but generally they'll be people on track tyres where the right is Hotter than the left, but you won't get that issue if it's raining and you're on road tyres Coppice's can be quite tricky in the wet as it has a rise going into it which can off weight your grip Just take it steady and don't try and keep pace with other bikes if they're on rain tyres as the grip compared to road tyres is night and day If you didn't want to ride up there and back, and you didn't mind reaching into your pocket, you could do a lot worse than to hire a bike from Matt at Smallboy track bike hire, as he'll have the bikes there with a variety of wet and dry tyres/warmers etc and you can go up and back in the comfort of your car
I found McLeans corner at the bottom far end is the dodgiest one in the rain. I'm not sure if it's a repair or something but there's a section in the middle of the corner that always seems to make the bike slide. Be careful going over the brow into Coppice as well. My second trackday was at the Haslam school and still the only one I've done in the rain.
