Wet weather tyres and racing

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Bront, Jun 9, 2013.

  1. Big discussions at the race track yesterday as it was raining and a few of the guys were on their first set of wet's. As I've never raced in the wet I would be interested to know what you guys think about.

    1. How much do you change your pressures front and back from dry settings?

    2. Do you use tyre warmers?

    3. If using warmers do you heat to the same temp?

    Thanks

  2. I use 30/30 in my wets. 29/27 in the dry.

  3. 30/30 sounds about right to me too.

i dont use wamers on wets, they warm up fast enough anyway.

  4. Fist time on them last week. Absolute revelation. I'd happily race flat out, and crash, on them :upyeah:

  5. Speak to you tyre supplier for pressures. different manufacturers recommend different pressures. And the same for tyre warmers. I use standard temp (85'ish) warmers for a max of 20 mins before use. Dont cook em!

  6. As Cranker said the tyre manufacturer can give you a good starting point. Seeing as you're in South Africa our pressures could be a little off if its 30 degrees and raining, it doesn't get that warm even when the sun's out here.

  7. Tyre manufacturer will give the best starting pressure, obviously air/track temp and speed will make some differences which is just down to feel and tyre condition after each session. If they're full race wets you probably only want about 60 degrees C on the warmers.

  8. Good info, thanks everyone.
