What Are The Purists Going To Do ?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Willythepoo, May 8, 2014.

  1. So when the V twin in your garage is getting older and you want another bike, what are you going to get ?

  2. The Panigale 899 is a V twin (or L-twin, if you're being pedantic) but, because I'm a Ducati purist, I opted for a 1098 over an 899 as I wanted a dry-clutch and a single-sided swing-arm.

I'm also not crazy about the new Monster 1200 being water-cooled.

tbh, not sure what I'd get next, though I'm most likely to concede to 'progress' and get a wet-clutch :-/

Ideally, I'd be able to hang on the the 1098 too, to remember the good old days when Ducatis were proper Ducatis ;)

  3. RSV4 APRC. Thats my next bike. Once I tire of the 1198, if i do. I will keep my 916 forever. I'm not a purist as I dont believe Ducati's are the bikes they once were.

  4. This is my current problem. Really love my 848 and monster 1100s , but they are both 4 years old this year and no idea what to buy next. Its a toss up between adding a MV f3 to the collection, or selling my 848 for a panigale (big or little). if only the 899 had a single sider it would make it a bit easier.

  5. If the 1199S was the same price as the Factory RSV4, I'd consider the 1199. But its £4k more and you get less. Go figure.

  6. Im getting one of these :

So I can do THIS to it :

  7. Of maybe it'll be an 899....not sure

  8. Blind Faith( for the older members) or open your mind and buy what suits you the most ?

Personally I like air cooled twins so while keeping my old Pantah I recently bought a newish Guzzi , best thing I`ve done for years. It may not win races or be innovative but it makes me smile a lot.

What suits a purist anyway, is it a bevel , does it have contis ? I remember a comment a while back that a Duke had to have Termis , how absurd.

  9. Agreed. I got Termi's on mine and the build quality is poor.....should have gone Akrapovic

  10. Love that bobber C90.

  11. Here's mine it's moved on from this just need a carb, oil cooler exhaust and chain 150cc of pure power

  12. I love a V-twin, me. But it ain't the be all and end all, I'd happily have something else. Tried a couple of Triumph Sprints, but in all honesty I found them even more soulless than my current Shitebird, despite the beautiful sound they made. People say the Hondas are soulless, but believe me at 180mph it's giving off all the fkin' soul I can handle:eek:

And anyway, if it really was soul you wanted, you'd all be riding Guzzis;)

I fancy a Street Triple next, and I've still yet to try a Monster. I reckon I'd like them.

  13. You should try a Speed Triple @figaro . Bloody brilliant bikes. *whispers* Id keep mine over the 848 every day of the week....shhhhh don't tell anyone ;)

  14. Sure I would. But I've got a hankering for something I can properly thrash. Reckon the Street Triple would be ideal.

  15. To be fair I should probably go and ride one....they are supposed to be a hoot. I just love grunt (so to speak)

  16. I'm struggling with this, the 848sf is almost perfect for me. But come next march time I was planning on changing it, and based on the hype, the 899 was on the cards but I rode it and really and truly prefer my sf. Even my little 848 has more useable bottom end. The 899 only makes sense to me if every ride was fast A road or track days. My bike is like riding a 130bhp BMX it's great.

  17. I wouldn't call myself a purist - not by a long shot, im on my second hyper (that's it ducati wise...) while I like the hyper, and love everything about it I don't think id get another ducati, I love the panigale (sat on one on Saturday down at riders - an 899 an 1199) but as bootsam said theyre way too much for the money....my factory rsv4 albeit pre aprc is half the price...if you held a gun to my head - a 1098SFs but again theyre pretty steep as well...even second hand....

Again as much as I like the hyper the thing that puts me off ducati is the sheer speed everything corrodes on them...it looks like a lot of people have complained about various different models but they don't do a thing to improve - for the cost of say 16k for a panigale you would have thought for a premium bike theyd throw in stainless fixings everywhere - at least...

  18. Switched my 848SF for a KTM1290 so it's err... a V twin.
have my MTS PP so that's a V2 as well.
Also chopped my 749 as it wasn't being used enough.

I need a V4 at some stage, sadly it's more likely to be an Aprilia than a D16

I could handle an IL4 but it's never really appealed to me, rode the S1000RR and it was great but I wouldn't buy one. I like hooning about with my mates on a naked Streetfighter style naked and/or sometimes a pillion or touring on the MTS.

If Ducati bring out a Pani 1199 Streetfighter, I'd maybe go for it but I want my trellis frame as much as my V2

I don't need a faired Pani as I simply don't want that sort of bike (D16 aside!). I guess with the new KTM, I've gone for a muscle car equivalent as opposed to a svelte two seater like a Lotus Elan. Size is also an issue for me as Pani looks tiny and mini moto to me. I prefer a bit more metal for my bikes. The website that shows ergonomics for bikes I've found very useful where you can see the posture on the bike and what the differences are.

  19. I wouldnt worry.....there'll be an 899 Street Fighter along shortly I'm sure.

  20. ill do a straight swap for the 1290 I know its not been delivered yet but if you can fill it up for me as well that'd be peachy! And don't get any ideas about having a go on it - its mine now!
