What chain lube?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Tel, Jul 9, 2013.

  1. Just thought I'd ask around to see which chain lube people are using and recommend.
i'm trying to find one that doesn't fling too much as I just don't have the time to spend cleaning it all off after a ride out.

  2. Is that the chain lube or wax?

  3. i like the wurth dry lube too for road use but it can get really gunky and kill chains if you dont clean it all off and re do it monthly (wth weekly top ups)

but have found even the really sticky stuff like rock oil doesn't fling much if you put it on after you ride when the chain is hot, wipe of the excess and and leave it over night to dry

  4. I use Wurth dry lube, monthly cleans and a quick spray at the end of each ride when the chain is hot....

  5. used the new wd40 chain lube recently, it goes on very wet then goes very gooey after a few minutes, not 100% sure how good it really is, or what's better, wax or lube so will look forward to others views, I know scottoiler will get a mention but from all ive seen it just leaves oil everywhere, tyres included

  6. As above worth dry lube

  7. I'm trying the wd40 stuff at the moment as I got given some. So far I found it flings everywhere.

  8. Wurth dry.

  9. +1 for Wurth

  10. Wurth is the way to go

Their brake and chain cleaner is also great. Clears away brake dust and brings calipers back to new :)

  11. +1 for Wurth. Fabulous stuff!

  12. +1 for Wurth, esp. as their head office/trade counter is down the road

  13. In my opinion the Wurth lube it triffic.
Steve, Do you clean the chain on or off the bike and if on the bike how do you reduce the ammount of crud spraying all over the place? When I've done this (with the aid of a toothbrush) I end up with muck everywhere.
Up to now I've been using Wurth Chain and brake cleaner and relied on the power of the spray to remove the dirt. I used a sheet of plastic to catch the runoff.

  14. Another Wurth dry user here :upyeah:

  15. +1 for wurth dry lube. I clean my chain on the bike using muck off chain cleaner and a chain cleaning brush Laser Motorcycle Chain Cleaning Brush - Machine Mart. I usually take the rear wheel out and have a drip tray underneath to catch the crud that comes off.

  16. I use this too, the idea after a ride with the chain nice and warm, spray on and leave for next day, lubes and doesn't fling

  17. silkolene titanium dri gel, use it while chain is warm and leave to 'set'.

  18. I like the Wurth stuff too, but is it for all the wrong reasons?
No yucky mess all over the place, but does it lube and penetrate as well as the messy gubbins?
