What Colour Scheme Is It Going To Be... Suggestions

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Andy Bee, Jul 22, 2024.

  1. The Cagiva V-Raptor is now officially off the road & SORN'ed ready for it's long awaited, and it must be said well deserved, recommission.

I'm not wanting to do anything radical to him just looking to retain pretty all of it as is, including the front mudguard & fender extender plus all the ropey faux carbon fibre and the surprisingly effective but pig ugly screen.

However the big decision yet to be made is just what colour scheme to use. So any & all suggestions however revolting they may be are welcome - summat great just might come out of them. I'd like to highlight the frame and the wheels a little more and what does faux carbon fibre look like when sprayed....

  2. Red trellis frame and black footrest hangers and swingarm and possibly dark grey bodywork. Engine would look better in a darker colour as well. I would also change the colour of the rear hugger and remove the stripes from the wheels (probably black for these too).

  3. Interesting - the wheel stripes are gonna go anyway as they are stick on reflective and were only put on for safety reasons when commuting during the dark winter time..

  4. Ha! now that's the sort of suggestion I was looking for, a colour I hadn't even though off & it may well go nicely with a lime green frame...

Btw is Dog Cock Pink a Fallow & Ball colour name?

  5. Photoshop is definitely your friend here...each part on a separate layer...and you can easily play around with all the combinations. :upyeah:

  6. Black inc wheels, yellow frame.decals in yellow.

  7. Unfortunately I run Ubuntu on my desktop and you can only install Photoshop via Wine... the latter of which is the flakiest of flakiest things.

I have created a windows VM which I could use to install Photoshop on but a quick google does imply currency is required to change hands to get the full version permanently.

But a fine idea all the same and there may well be a similar package I can use directly on Ubuntu.

  8. Aha - yellow :)

Yellow & blue work as a combo - perhaps the bodywork yellow and then it'd be faster than when it was red... ha! :D

  9. Hmmm....

There's a fair bit to refurb on the bike, and I'd get stuck into that before all the colour decisions are made. Pull off the exhaust hanger/ footpegs and the engine casings and do them to begin? You wouldn't be the first -or last- to then realise that its a hell of a lot of work and time -that could instead be spent riding it on B roads!

BTW, the wheels look in great shape and painting them black just makes them a few shades darker than now. What a faff!

  10. The seat was a Top Sellerie fat comfy refurb for the commuter years that is worn out and does need re-doing. The original seat was a lot slimmer & swoopier plus two tone - red for the front & black for the pillion. Really need to keep the same seat pan mind cus all the relays, ECUs & electrical gubbins are underneath.

High level pipes is a fine idea although that may well require trashing the footpeg hangers that do hide an aesthetically unpleasant swing arm pivot area of the frame. New link pipes to raise the cans (perhaps newer slimmer ones) closer to the hanger may be a possibility.

And yes, a lovely motor which in a much updated form is still used in the latest V-Stroms.

  11. See my latest reply above re the exhaust/footpeg hanger.

Yep lots to do, this last year it has only been on the road to use for commuting until retirement in March by courtesy of an err... squeaky mot pass. Both fork legs are pitted and 'repaired' with ahem araldite filler, the titanium casing on the lhs is about 0.5mm away from rotting to the point of an oil leak, the chain & sprockets are buggered along with the swingarm bearings. It's split a coolant hose & one of the oil cooler pipes is also looking grim and though you might not be able to see in the photo the paint on the wheels is bubbling and flaking with white powder corrosion underneath. The frame is also showing rust in a couple of places. And oh, I reckon there's a battery leak somewhere in the loom.

So it was always planned to be complete strip & rebuild project, but what has buggered starting on that is the hoped for house move this year didn't pan out. And I don't want to strip it down to boxes before we do move. So yes, I'm doing it all arse about tit and no doubt making things even harder but where's the fun in doing it properly... I'm retired so I have the time to be double doing. :D

  12. I think Black Metalflake, White metallic, with Gold pinstriping always looks good.

  13. My Darmah was that colour scheme, black and gold, which I chose in loving remembrance of my Velocettes.
It's a very old faded photo but you get the idea.

  14. Interesting, the second post that has mentioned black. Unfortunately I already have a black & gold one... see the next reply. I'm thinking your suggestion of white was for the frame but that dark/light contrast might also work with a blue bodywork & yellow frame.

I still have a Darmah in black & gold which was recently refurbished with a Renault black/gold colour which is so subtle you can hardly see it....

  16. Ha! looks to be a tiddler, 250/300, so probably owned by a kiddie who will no doubt suffer from recurring nightmare flashbacks for the rest of his life....
