Now this may sound silly but what do you wear for riding, Leathers (1p/2p), biking jeans and a leather jacket/fabric jacket. The reason I ask is that historically I always wore 1 piece leathers whether on the track or road and while it's been 15 years since I last rode I have found that my leathers have shrunk and no longer ft, hence I've been wearing jeans and a fabric jacket (with armour) in the mean time. I've been in contact with a company who tailor makes leathers and want to know if I should be investing circa 2k for a 1 piece or stick with the jeans/jacket approach that I'm currently following. I know it's a "cruiser" type ride but would it look silly wearing a 1 piece suit or should I stick with the jeans/jacket approach, finally I do know it's a personal choice but I also want to be wearing the "right" clothes as far as protection is concerned and I'm not sure if the material science has improved so much as to be better than leather.
Resurgence bike jeans & leather jacket most of the time, unless it’s raining or I’m away on a trip, then will wear the Rukka suit. I’ve never been tempted by leather trousers as I have a huge cock, and they’d be too uncomfortable.
Let’s acknowledge that many riders are more concerned about appearance than protection. You’ll see lots of riders wearing a leather jacket and cotton jeans. Sure, blue jeans are the great American motorcycle uniform, but denim has almost no abrasion resistance. If you go down wearing jeans with no additional leg protection, tests have shown that the fabric can grind away to skin within about five feet of sliding on asphalt. There are jeans made of special fabric which will with stand considerable abrasion. Typically, the fabric is woven of cotton, spandex, and Kevlar fibers. Such jeans are less expensive than leather pants, but are bulky, impractical to tailor if you need a custom fit, and may not provide adequate abrasion resistance in all situations. There’s lots of motorcycle riding jeans that have these more durable fabrics, areas of reinforcement and additional padding and armored areas, but most are loose-fitting, so keeping these areas of protection in the proper place on your body during a crash is a concern. My suggested alternative solution: wear proper leathers and boots under one-size-up relaxed-style jeans.
Resurgence jeans, skinny fit so they don’t flap about and a long length so they don’t ride up over my boots with a textile jacket, all with armour, not worn leather for ages. Being slightly later in years I just find leather too heavy and restrictive, I also go for comfort..
I used to wear a textile jacket and jeans occasionally, I've also got a 1p alpinestars suit that I wear a Held Keltor chest/back/kidney/coccyx protector waistcoat underneath.. having crashed in it on the road and walked away with only a damaged thumb and ego I'd be reluctant to wear anything else now, and I'll definitely be investing in an airbag suit next time I buy one.
Bullitt jeans & Alpinestars leather jacket most of the time. Not sure there’s ever an excuse to be wearing one piece leather at a “back to biking” age, particularly on a cruiser but hey whatever grinds your gears!
most of my rides I wear Oxford single layer jeans with hip & knee armour, Alpinestar short boots, Oxford Mondial textile jacket with Alpinestar Tech-air 5 air vest. I also have Alpinestar leather jackets & Oxford Hinterland textile trousers but where I'm going & what the weather is doing decide if I wear those.
If the weather/temperature isn't suitable I'll wear armoured Goretex textiles. Otherwise it'll be leather jacket and Rokkertech jeans. When it's really warm, AKA summer tour on the continent, I'll be wearing the same Rokker jeans with a Klim Marrakesh jacket which flows plenty of air. I have two piece leathers but they've remained in the wardrobe for the last few years TBH.
Full 2 piece leathers, boots etc at all times. When I was a 'yooof', I'd be bombing around with ripped jeans and a flight jacket. Maybe some DM's. But I bounced when I was a yoof and my speeds were a lot lot lower and traffic a lot less. (Scoots) I split my ring along the commercial road, just wearing combats when a volvo u turned on me and went down on my arse. My best mate thought this was hilarious. Getting a stitch by a pretty nurse in A&E whilst listening to him guffawing on other side of curtain will remain with me for life. RIP Wilksy, you bastard
Resurgence jeans with Oxford shirt, both with Forcefield Ghost CE level 2 armour that I already had and fitted myself. Touratech Companero Goretex ProShell textiles over the top if it's wet or cold. Used to use the Companero summer/inner armoured textile suit all the time but I've 'outgrown' it since Covid struck.
On my sports bike I’ll wear my Held Slade one piece in the main but if it’s really warm maybe a Ducati armoured textile jacket with leather jeans. On the Scrambler it’ll be the Ducati armoured textile jacket and leather jeans in the main unless I’m riding in Italy or some such very hot place where I’ll wear the Ducati armoured textile jacket and Held armoured jeans. Or if it’s cold and or wet my Oxford full armoured textile jacket & trousers combo. As an aside I also have a spare pair of RST jeans I’ve never worn which I should put up for sale and a pair of leather jeans that are a couple of years old where the elastic has ruckled - the leather jeans be good for someone starting out who hasn’t got any/much kit. And they could have them for the cost of p&p.
2 piece leathers and boots in cooler months. I’ll be using a 1 piece with airbag in the summer which I may well use in the coming cooler months. I got a good deal on it and with the added protection of an airbag it seemed a no brainier. Just a bit chilly at the moment!
On the scrambler it’s TCX short boots, Oxford armoured jeans (which are getting a bit snug!) and a Bering Textile jacket, if the weathers shit then it’s the matching Bering trousers, but don’t really plan winter/wet riding on the scrambler. Might look to getting a retro Ducati leather jacket in the summer?
Always proper boots and gloves, feet and hands don't do damage and repair very well. In between, depends on weather. Wet, it's the Dainese two-piece fabric jacket and trews with back protector and armour. Dry, it's the two piece Ducati branded jacket and trews. Round town it will be my new to me Ducati jeans and Ducati jacket.
