What Does Going From An 848 To A 1199 Feel Like?

  1. Anyone else out there done this, weighing up my possible next bike purchase.

Seen some nice 1199's ranging from 10.5k to 13k and some nice 1199s from 11.5-14k.

Also to anyone else out there who might have one if you had the choice of the 1199 and the 1199s which would you choose and why.

  2. It it helps I went from 999s to 1199s.. nearly 2 years of ownership and the thing still blows my socks off when I thrash it. Id defo go for the S as above the base, if for nothing else the forged wheels weigh what feels like next to nothing. The 1199s is a stiff ride so money spent on sorting that would be well spent, the ride is not as plush as my 999 was.
I did miss that low down grunt, but have fitted 42t rear, decated 1299 system, sprint filter and Rapidbike Evo to sort the fueling. Which has sorted out the power curve and given me some low end grunt. I had the front wheel lifting in 4th the other evening.

  3. The 848 is more than enough for the road. Can't believe I am saying that but....they look the same etc. Be like having the same bike but with bigger internals. Why not change up to Panigale. You will get one for that sort of money.

  4. He has said he wants to go to a Panigale...

  5. Usual thing - thrown by the use of numbers. Well then go ahead. I will be jealous.

  7. Ooh the 1199s? Have less of a low end grunt?

Do they ride more like an inline 4 then? As the low end grunt brutality is why I love ducatis.

  8. there not slow by any means mate, just got to ride um different.

  9. Tbh it'll probably be way nicer to ride haha.

I love the 848 but got riding those things round a city is a bit of work. They fall apart under 4k

  10. If you want grunt what about going older but higher quality... Old 2 valve lump... Different bike but I had the opportunity to get a hyper 821 sp but went for the old 1100 evo sp for exactly that reason...

  11. I went 848 to 1199 if you search some of my posts you'll find my thoughts. Wish I'd kept my 848 though as it was a special bike with lots of nice parts. Now got a 899 which is great but dull

  12. I back to back rode the 848 evo and 1199s and I was left a little cold by the 1199 at the time because the 848 made so much useable power down the bottom of the revs, it felt more like a 'traditional twin'.... The 1199 does have a decent step in power, almost 2 stroke like in its delivery which is pretty fun!

There is nothing wrong with the panigale, I think once u are used to them they are so great to ride. I am used to my 899 now, I love it to bits and would say I ride it a bit more like my 675 triple where u hold more revs between corners etc.

Do it if you want to make the kind of improved ergonomics, slightly easier to live with and a change. But I don't think anyone is going to tell you to ditch the 'dog' as the 848 still punches well above its weight

  13. The 848, especially in rev happy Evo guise is the perfect 'do all' sports bike IMO.

I test rode a 1098 before buying mine and they're obviously brilliant bikes but on the public roads it just felt like you were tickling it round at 75%.
You really can wring the 848's neck and they're plenty quick.
    Great fun!
