What extras for 2013 multi s touring

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by psalliss, Jul 25, 2013.

  1. Hi just put deposit down on new multi 2013 to be collected a week sat. What extra are worth getting? Getting a low seat as needs to be a little lower mainly for if carrying pillion for confidence for me.

im tempted with getting the termi silencer as well. How much louder is it and is it worth it?

also looking at top box as girlfriend likes to lean on it when out plus I use it for work occasionally. I've seen this one from ebay and the seller is lliterally 3 miles away. Ducati Multistrada 1200 Givi V47 Top Box & SR312 Fitting Kit Rosso Italian Red | eBay

im aware the colour won't match the panniers but ill probably never ride with them both on and it is essentially same as Ducati one. Plus 270 for rack and box due to being local. Would you get extortionate ducati one at double price or one above.

also opted for the pilot road 3 to be fitted from new.

  2. Isn't having a termi silencer the law?

  3. Ha yes that's what I thought. Just being sensible and thinking that I need the top box first ad seat and possibly extra driving lights

  4. Get a spare key for panniers and petrol cap so you can avoid taking the electronic one out of an inner pocket. Top box very useful two up. Original Pirellis work fine in my view, dry and wet (I have also used PR3 and Z8).

  5. Picked my new 1200S Touring up last Saturday and have enjoyed 350 miles this week running it in.

The Ducati top box is excellent, and I negotiated one in as part of the deal. The backrest on it works well for my girlfriend.

Other touring mods fitted so far:
The OEM 'option' front fender extender....bit tricky to fit but should help avoid stones being flicked up into the exposed radiator.
    Ducati matt carbon tank pad.
RAM mount for my Tom Tom Rider 2 sat nav. Just bolts in place of the lower left handlebar clamp bolt, and I can still see the full dash.
Power lead for satnav to one of the two auxiliary Hella sockets.
Optimate lead straight to the battery.
Hella to cigar socket lead for charging my mobile phone, Scala headset etc via a USD adaptor.

The Scorpions seem fine so far, but not tested in the rain yet.

Oh yes...full Termi system and up-map ordered for fitting at the first service on the 10 August :)
Just need to flame-proof my number plate now!

  6. The Ducati Top Box is a bit pricey, but you're gonna have to face it every day. The integrated design and colour is worth it.

If you do go for the Givi, see if you can change the lock barrel. All multis come with 3 barrels for panniers and top box which are opened by the key.

Full Termis a must. Consider radiator and engine/front cylinder guard. Have to say my old one didn't get much in way of damage. Then again, I was less adventurous.

I'm using a Wunderlich screen extender which seems pretty good at solving head buffeting yet preserving vision.

If you got the low seat like me, you might want to consider adding an Airhawk type cushion because it is rock hard.

Another thing to consider are liner bags. Makes more efficient use of space in the panniers and top box.

You can get the Givi top box liner for about £25 on Amazon while the Ducati branded goes for £50. The latter is quality though. Had some cheapo imitation for panniers. Work, but less refined particularly at zips.

    O yes, electronic fuel cap...

  7. cheers quite like the idea of elec fuel cap. Would like full termi but can't really justify the price hence may just get end can. I may well just get the givi one as I presume the Rack is basically the same just colour matching not as good. But for 250 difference not sure would bother me that much.
may get the extra lights though

  8. The Termi end can will make no difference to the sound whatsoever as all the baffling is done in the fugging great lump hanging under your engine that weighs about 15kg!
Get a QuatD system. They are the mutts nuts.

  9. If you're going touring on your S Touring then a top box is a must, especially if touring two up. As mentioned earlier, if you go for the Ducati box then one key fits all, and it looks good.

Keyless ignition is great but it's a PITA to have to fumble for the fob every time you fill up, so go for the keyless filler cap.

I have to admit I've stuck with the standard exhaust, I think it looks dead cool. The after market exhausts looks, er, old fashioned! Ok, I'll get my coat.....

  10. I traded in my 2010 S Touring for a 2013 model and transferred a number of accessories and purchased some new ones. Here's my list of accessories:

    Must Haves:
    - Radiator and Oil Cooler guards (Evotech)
    - Fenda Extenda (Pyramid Plastics). Have fun fitting the original mudguard back :-(
    - Cylinder head guard. I transferred an early Palmer Products guard however there are now many others on the market.
    - Steel wheel nut socket (Motomfg), to carry on the bike, along a supplemented tool kit under the seat.
    - Chain Adjusting C Spanner (Palmer Products). Do I need the new folding one?
    - Change the main beam bulbs (H11) to something better (e.g. Osram Night Breaker Plus). Keep the original as spares, they fit nicely in an old 35mm film tube.
    - Key without Transponder (59840291A), so if you leave it in a lock the bike can't be started with it.- Number Plate with "Euro" GB Badge (ask the dealer to fit this from new, as it's a pain to get one later)
    - When the number plate illumination bulb blows (Festoon), replace it with an LED bulb. You will break the plastic cover (24713331A) so buy a replacement first.

    Must Dos:
    - Fit the longer front and rear mudguards (ask the deal to install from new)
    - Glue the pannier rubbers onto the brackets
    - Glue the rubber on the "main stand" handle
    - Fit all the accessories at the same time, as you don't want to keep taking all the fairing panels too often
    - Get a replacement gear change rubber (76411322A)
    - Get a replacement main stand rubber (76410631A), for when the original is burnt away. You can tell as there is clunking noise when rolling off the stand
    - Put some Copper-slip on the exhaust valve

    Nice to Haves:
    - Electric fuel cap
    - A top box when taking a pillion. I kept the Ducati top box when I traded in the old bike
    - Liners for the panniers and top box. The Ducati liner for the R/H side pannier doesn't fit into the pocket (over the exhaust cut out). I made a cover for the pocket (as suggested on the defunked ducatisti.co.uk web site), to hold the euro-touring stuff (bulb kit, first aid kit, breath testers, fluro bibs, more tools, jump leads, etc.)
    - Barkbusters, to protect the handguards and levers in the event of a topple over.
    - A chain oiler to throw some oil at the chain (and back wheel, etc.) to slow down the rust on the side plates. I transferred an eSystem Scottoiler. It makes the rear wheel dirty and the chain still gets rusty :-(
    - A more comfortable seat. I couldn't get on with the standard 2013 seat having had no problems with both the standard and lower seat on the 2010 model. I've not got a lower seat which I can just about live with 300 miles in a day.
    - A Navihalter for mounting the sat nav above the instrument display. Not as good as the 2010 mount and it does make the screen adjustment a pain but it works.
    - A tank bag. I originally brought a FAMSA E-Max which is good for touring however I might try one of the "tank filler ring" types from Givi (Tanklock) or Bags Connection.
    - Auxiliary lights - I fitted the Ducati GT lights so I might be seen a better. They are nicely tucked out the way and the supplied loom plugs into the Sat Nav socket under the L/H side fairing panel (and has another socket for the Sat Nav). Expensive but I'm happy with them.
    - Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). I fitted a Mobiletron TPMS as I swap between solo and two up regularly, and I followed the tyre pressures in the Ducati handbook; 36 psi solo (front and back), 42 psi with pillion (front and back). I make sure I've got the right pressures before setting off, without getting on my knees with a pressure gauge
    - A intercom system. I had an Autocom on the old bike, it was very good. I decided to try Schuberth C3 Pro helmets and SRC Bluetooth communication system. The jury is still out on this one.
    - Tracker
    - Datatag marking, now fitted as standard on new Ducatis?
    - VentureShield. Not tried this before, so will have to wait and see after a couple of years. So far so good.

    Other Stuff:
    - A Kriega US-20 dry bag, which fits nicely on the "top box rack" and a bit of the back seat. I don't like using the top box when I'm solo. If I purchased again, I'd go for the larger US-30.
    - Eagle Creek’s Pack-It Cubes, for packing clothes into the pannier liners. I like them as I don;t have to repack everything back into the liners after a overnight stop.
    - Exped Dry Bags, for stuff in the tank bag (which is not waterproof). Also work wet for anything wet (e.g. gloves) in the tank bag or panniers.

Sorry, I got a bit carried away with the list. All my accessories/mods are for touring, and some are a bit over the top.

The really sad part is that I have a spreadsheet of all my bike expenditure - I try not to look at the total cost too often :)

  11. So much information and good advice Steve B don't think I'd want to look at the old Visa statement after buying that lot.

  12. The panniers can be a bit 'snug' when you try to push them onto the rubbers and this can lead to the rubbers being pulled away slightly with the pannier when you take them off. A quick blast with some silicon spray cures this and it's only a couple of quid a can from Maplins.

  13. my extra's are sw motech crash bars, mushrooms on hub spindles, fender extender, carbon tank guards, bark busters, and rectifier guard, evotech rad/oil cooler gaurds, top box ducati sat nav, and touring screen,

  14. Thanks all. Won't really be touring on it I don't think so some of the more touring stuff won't be needed and won't use panniers really so they will be taken off as soon as I get it and stored.

will probably get extra lights, an poss fuel cap later and wouldn't mind the engine bars. Didn't really like the look of the Ducati one but the givi ones look quite good. How do they compare?

Would love the full termi but can't really justify it so wil prob just be end can for asthetics

also wouldn't mind looking into cruise control options

  15. All of this was my main reason for me getting a GT version.
The time you added up all the essential extras you may as well buy the GT. (in my eyes anyway) although the colour took a little bit of getting used to.
along with all the standard GT spec
    I also got the following
    Evotech radiator guard
    Evotech shorty levers
    Ducati / harming satnav
Leo Vince exhaust and replacement pipe. Makes it sound faster ;-)
    Venture shield protection film.
    Ducati performance carbon tail tidy
I also ordered the electric fuel cap but the dealer had issues with it straight away. It wouldn't lock and when they eventually got it to lock it wouldn't open. They spent 3 hours on it and eventually sent it back. They said they will watch out for revisions coming up. No point in me getting a new bike and not able to fuel it up.
The GT angels seem fine so far although only really done 500 dry miles but they give plenty of grip.

  16. i liked the Ducati but too be me a Ducati has to be red. I'm sure ill end up buying other stuff later ha

  17. Forgot the lower seat, which is nice in town but on a run is a little hard and not as comfortable

  18. We discussed doing a paint job with the dealer and changing it to red. But cost to do it and a possible depreciation at the other end talked me out of it.
When it comes to sell it and I say I changed it from grey to red first thing everyone will think is its been dropped. !! I know I would.
The grey is slowly warming on me. :)

  19. You could get it wrapped for a couple hundred quid

  20. I thought about that as well but like you thought that it would cost to much plus would put people off.

Im going to need the low seat for when carrying pillion. On my own the normal seat is pretty much ok but I can ony get one foot down and don't think I would be confident with pillion on when coming to a stop
