What frame sliders/crash protectors, if any... any why?

  1. Hi everyone,

This post has arisen from me trying to work out what are the best frame sliders to go for.

I have so far looked at:

R&G - who state "the market leaders in crash protection and the only insurance approved crash protectors on the market. As used by some of the worlds top race teams, what better endorsement do you need!" @ £66.66

They fail to tell us what the product is made from though and that puts me off.
However Ducati have endorsed them as their supplier for a recent tour, but does that really mean anything other than they submitted the best tender?

Evotech - "Evotech crash bobbins are made from high performance engineering polymer that will act sacrificially to protect your bike. The mounts are CNC machined from aircraft quality aluminium and colour anodised." @ £60.99

I like their stuff so far and compare I think, with speedymoto.

SpeedyMoto - "The SpeedyMoto frame slider kit includes an extremely durable chromoly steel engine bolt. Precision-ground, thread-formed and quenched and tempered to an aircraft grade tensile strength of 185,000 psi, our bolt far surpasses OEM specs (as well as other manufactures) in both strength and wearability. We employ stainless steel for the integral engine nuts and slider support, not unlike the high-strength engine bolts used by Ducati race teams. Corrosion resistant and strain-hardened stainless steel is ideal for the crucial applications of holding your motor in, supporting the entire chassis, and providing a reliable platform for the actual slider.
SpeedyMoto uses High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) plastic for the slider puck. Unlike other plastics, the unbelievably low friction coefficient of this plastic makes it practically glide on the pavement. By using this material the risk of 'grabbing' is reduced, avoiding turning a smooth lowside into the dreaded catastrophic highside." $149.95 (about £95)

As expensive as these are, I like the style, they are in keeping with my bike and the fact they explain what they are made of.

Please post your views and opinions and help me make that tuff decision on how to best protect my bike a little easier.
Of course I will do my best to keep it upright but I'm safe guarding myself for the day my co-ordination isn't at its best.

  2. GB Moto I think mine are, the 848 Challenge supplied ones as I figured if its good enough for them, for the water pump and casings, its good enough for me :upyeah: plus under fairing RG sliders and front bobbins

  3. I've got r&g under fairing and fork sliders. And they work.

also got r&g case covers. Though these weren't fitted at the time so didn't get to test them. I got these over the gb racing ones purely for cost reasons.

  4. JHP do the best fork protectors IMO non of this unscrewing nuts and bolts to get the wheels in and out

  5. Not seen them. Any pics?

  6. Might be listed on their site, they're a simple push/friction fit into the spindle... More like hammer in same diameter as the spindle so nothing extra needed to hold them in place, very clever simple idea.

  7. Got the R&G on the M750 and have some "wider" USofA eBay specials on the S4R. At the end of the day they'll save the bike in a low speed drop. Any more than that either bike will be a write off as they'll cost too much to fix.

Both go through the front engine mount and fit better than the Ducati long bolt, I'm guessing that Ducati production clearances are quite big.

  8. Hi, i agree with the ducati fork sliders, have some myself and defiantly the easiest to live with. If you look at images in my gallery you should see them if i dont send a better picture.
As for frame sliders, i use GSG Moko. Bolt and secure nicely to the frame, and have a larger slider head than the main body of the slider block. They also use softish bolts designed to bend rather shear with a big crash.
The down side from what i've heard (but not seen) is frame sliders can dig in to soft ground and flip bikes which previously may have just slid. And also some required cutting holes in bodywork.

  9. R&G under fairing, and Ducati front fork sliders (no spindle).

  10. Under fairing are the way to go as they can't dig nin a slide. No use though if you've got a naked!
