Managed to get out yesterday and found this gem just outside Burford. It was RAF Broadwell, last used in 1947, but most of it's still intact including the control tower as the site has never been redeveloped, planning was recently granted to turn it into solar farm but those plans have been shelved, so hopefully it will stay in this wonderful state of decay for a bit longer.
Shame bout that useless crappy BMW behind it. About as much use 4x4 offroad as wearing iceskates whilst hiking.
Annnnyyyyywayyyyyy, back to the original thread, there is something strange, saddening but also fascinating about urban decay. Im not talking about years of underfunding and misuse (like the underground) I mean projects and buildings that have been vacated and then just left. For me, one of the most interesting sights I've ever seen was last year. I left Birmingham for London at about 05:30 and headed down past Stratford Upon Avon. Heading through one of the little villages in the Cotswolds, the rising sun was shining its way past the lonely spire of the local church. It was still really early, but I really wish I'd stopped just to watch :frown:
Back in the summer - i do like a nice ruin (plus its nice to post a pic of my bike I've nearly forgotten what it looks like)
