What If I Crash?

  1. Hi Guys

I'm looking at starting track days next year but to start with a will be riding up on a road legal bike, blasting round the track and generally impressing everyone with my innate natural ability ("he should have gone pro" they will be saying) and then riding home.

Thoughts are, if I put the bike down (hitting oil or something else no fault of my own) and either the bike can't be ridden or i can't ride it:
Do they let you store them at the track for a bit?
    Do they charge?
Is it track/track day organiser dependent?

    Thanks

  2. Do they let you store them at the track for a bit? Id guess it not be a problem, but it would be at your own risk
    Do they charge? Doubt it
Is it track/track day organiser dependent? Track would make the decision

Top Tip.. either hire a Van for the day or buy a trailer

  3. Yeah, was looking at trailers but the cost for getting a tow bar fitted was coming in at £400+. Could hire a van but it puts the day up another £50.

What happens if you go on your own and bang yourself up so you can't drive?

  4. Always best to buddy up with someone, just in case.

Matt did his at Silverstone and left it there for a week iirc.

If you go there thinking of crashing, you will increase the risk of crashing. Prep the bike so nothing can split or fall off and chain/tyres all good. Ride like a road ride. Listen to yourself if you start 'scaring yourself' may be time to back off a little.

Trackdays.co.uk (think that is the url, ran by a fella called Dan) is a good resource

  10. Join trackdayriders forum. You'll usually find people there on the same date as you.

People seem to just pull together at times.

I once drove from oulton to Essex in some blokes van with him sitting next to me in a sling. Mrs weeks was following in our car. Think I got home about 2am.

  13. Cheers guys. I guess try to stay fairly local to start with and as you say take it easy. But i struggle with that.

  14. When I was at Mallory I was told by one of the guys manning the lights that when crashes occur they do keep the bike until it can be collected. he cited a someone who broke their leg in a crash and they are waiting for him to be well enough to collect it.

You don't have to crash to find your bike unrideable, any serious mechanical issue can stop you riding it home, if you have RAC\AA etc. cover then you might be able to get it recovered home.

Personally I would hire a van and better still if you can spit the cost with someone, much safer and covers most of the angles like an unforeseen crash or breakdown and the bikes away from prying eyes.

  15. I rode mine to oulton park did 8 sessions and rode it home ... Clutch and back tyre were goosed but legal........ ( honest!!!) ..you just have to run within your bikes limits , it's not a race .. Just enjoy the experience . But having said that ....... I'll hire a van next time .

  16. I've only ever ridden to track days (and ridden back from all but one :) ).

That said, I wish I could afford a van but in the meantime ... riding to Brands or Cadwell is the order of the day for me :upyeah:

  17. I thought you only went for rides up hills so if you had an incident you could push it back home easier

  18. As we have seen over the past few months ... no one has any control over what you think! :D
