So far I have got nearly 20000 miles and the chain is fine, has not needed adjusting in over 3000 miles, the sprockets are 3/4 worn.I truly reckon the reason is cleaning with paraffin by paintbrush and castrol chain lube, and I like to make progress on the road too.
dunno but i did lesson than 2000 and mine snapped yesterday (see close shave thread)....always maintained and cleaned..
40,000 and still had lots of life left, but decided to change it as it was getting old. I had a scottoiler so this was the reason it lasted so long.
Blimey !!!! I've always gone out my way to ensure I have one fitted. I ride all weathers never any rust on the chain and prolonged chain life convinced me it was all good. Obviously it's important to have it on the right setting, so what makes it so bad ???
no oil delivery, or oil delivery to rear wheel...fling all over tyre, and everywhere....look shit, become loose, messy, dirty and stupid...after 2 yrs of it not working and a dozen close calls it had to go..i couldnt even give it away, and thats the truth.
When I bought my bike it had a scott oiler fitted,it was poorly positioned and fitted, immediately took it off for piece of mind.
Think I got about 20k miles. Only ever lubed with the spray, never adjusted outside services. Result.
