OK I'm thinking of getting a better chain and lock etc. So far I'm thinking 16mm (or 19mm) chain, with a decent lock and an Anti Pinch pin! However, there is so much to choose from, just wondering what any of you guys have used and if you're happy with them or anything you recommend? There are the Sold Secure things, but then there's also Thatcham approved and also Police recomendations... So much to choose from. I'm happy to spend a bit of money to get something really good, but difficult to know what the best combination is. Also do any of you use a "Pinch Pin" or do you manage to get a chain through the frame somehow? Cheers
Is this something that is going to stay in one place, or something that you are planning to tote around with you?
Ha ha.. yeah I'm going to get some chain like that Exige I'm looking for locking up in my garage (don' t plan on leaving the bike outside anywhere unless I'm sat on it!), so happy to have as thick a chain as practical! Not sure if 19mm chain will go through the frame easy enough tho - which is why I was thinking about the pinch pin!
Almax chains seem to have good feedback. This looks liek a good alarm for the garage, was gonne buy it but had the garage wired to the hse circuit. Bike-It Garage Alarm | Demon Tweeks
At home i have a rottweiler roaming around the yard looking for a motorbike thief (Trick is to not overfeed him !!!!) ... no takers yet... dont really leave it whilst out and about... if i could get a dog seat i would ... and tie him to the bike when out and about... But i firmly believe they will take it even with the best of chains.. they would probably take the dog too .. thinking about it... :>
Aircon, I bet you've been looking for an excuse to use that video for ages ha ha.... ;-) Do you think it's not worth spending a bit extra getting the 19mm chain then ie if they are going to saw through a 16mm chain, then 19 won't make much difference!!!
If they get in to the garage in the first place it doesn't matter what size the chain - stop them getting in...
I have a light which comes on outside my house when the motion detector is activated. Big deal. It's very sensitive and will come on if cats or anything else wanders about somewhere within about 20 feet of the front door. The thing is on a timer, so starts at about 5pm and stops at, I don't know, 6am? I'll bet there is some device available where the motion detector would activate a message sent to your mobile phone, and no doubt you could configure the alarm to be a specific sound. So you would be instantly alerted if there was someone in your garage, but they wouldn't know you'd been alerted. Strikes me that this would be a handy anti-theft device, unless you are very slow getting out of bed.

UltraPIR Shed & Garage GSM Alarm & 2 x Remote Controls | I was looking at this. Seems like a pretty good price for the features?
you can already have a video sent to your phone and if you could then remotely activate a siren / alarm and a flashing blue light then that should scare them off
16mm and 19mm chain cannot be cut with a hand held bolt cropper so a thief would have to make some noise to cut them. Security Products
Rule 1 of bike security - don't post what security you have on a forum Rule 2 - anything can be cut but make yours too much effort so they move on Rule 3 - if they don't know the bike is there then doubtful they will break in to begin with.
Tulsa Chain in the States sells a 13mm chain hardened all the way through (Ultra Security Max). Most chains are hardened only on the exterior. Most chains regardless of thickness take about 0:15 seconds to cut with a grinder. Tulsa Chain takes over a 1:15 to cut with a grinder. I have found nothing to equal its security so bought it and also bought a lock to match...Abloy Protec PL 362. And no, I have no financial interest in either of these products.
