What should I do?.....

  1. Been out on potentially my next bike (1198S 2010) all afternoon and love it but have potentially a few issues/questions.

    1. The bike has full testi system however, I think the ECU has an issue or a general electrical fault, as the DTC option is not on the mode menu? Ducati sale said they would look into but potentially a new ECU would roughly be £1000? They are going to look into it but will not throw £1000 into the bike....... Surely this is a sale stopper IMO?

    2. The gold frame has what looks like a little pitting on both sides? It's a 2010 with 4500 miles and is otherwise immaculate. The service dept at sale which seem really good ATM, are goin got see if ducati as a good will gesture would look into this and rectify.

other than that I was smiling all afternoon. The feeling of being shot out of a canon is immense..... Haha. Corners like its on rails and knees down already. The bike is booked into the service dept at sale on the 9th July for pre sales checks and service, ready for delivery on the 11th, fingers crossed.

i am a little unnerved by the 2 comments above and they could potentially cancel this sale if they are not addressed. Am I being unreasonable or over cautious?...

    cheers

  2. DTC - gotta be sorted

    Frame - pay approriate price

  3. My opinion too. However thought it was a little abrupt that I was effectively handing over, over 10K and they said they would just sell it as it is. If I didn't want DTC then I would of just bought a standard 1198 a while ago instead of waiting a while for a decent S

  4. You sound like your getting in a bit of a panic over nothing mate.

I'd sleep on it if I were you.

You've plenty of time to change your mind if your not happy.

    Good luck anyway.

  5. If they dont fix it they can sell it. Who'd buy a bike with a known problem for anything less than a massive difference in price?

tbh if the attitude was all wrong I'd probably walk away.

  6. My experience of buying bikes and cars is if the dealer refuses to sort out defects (no matter how minor) when you point them out, then don't buy the f-in thing and go to a better dealer.

...........they may eventually get the message, but in my experience......they don't.

  7. Cheers guys. It's just disheartening when you think you've found the bike you've waited for, for a while and then issues arise..... It's in the service dept on the 9th so fingers crossed it might b good news.....

  8. I'd not be buying this one if you're not 100% sure.

There must be plenty other ones out there in mint condition with similar miles and no error codes / potential issues? The dealer should sort that out, it's not your problem. If they're not sorting it, just put the cash back in your pocket and wait on another one. Unless they are selling it at a notable discount (at least enough to cover the fix) just walk away. I know it's not the easy thing to do, but why buy a bike with a problem? I wouldn't if it was me, I'd be disappointed but I'd be more disappointed buying it then spending money and time trying to resolve a problem I shouldn't have.

  9. The good news is you haven't parted with any lolly prior to spotting the problems.
    Fingers crossed...:upyeah:

  10. How much you paying for it ?

  11. I can sell you a very sorted 1198s if you interested in purchasing one private. Check my previous posts.

  12. If you are paying £10k, think about how long it took you to save it. £10k is not nothing - it takes a lot of time and effort to accrue.

Then think about how difficult it would really be to buy another similar one, if you were prepared to wait a few weeks. You're going to have it for years (maybe) so get it right before you start. You shouldn't have any niggles and should have £10k's worth of piece of mind.

If a dealer isn't sensitive to these concern, it's not the right dealer.

  13. £10,800

  14. Seen yours on the trader: £11,500. It's mint but finances state I can't.

  15. Think about what will happen when you try to sell it on. Any prospective buyer will take a grand off your asking price for an ECU! The dealer should sort the problem or discount it heavily.

  16. When you turn the key the dash should come up 1198s CORSE.that's if no one has flashed it. I would stay clear if the traction control not working. Only selling mine as want 1199. Got till Friday then if not will be keeping as insurance is due renewal.

  17. If you are not happy then walk away. Its your money and your decision.

TBH looking at the bike it has too many horrible stickers on it for my liking. I would want those removed first.

What bout this one? Not red but you can count on the dealer in this case. They usually give a 12 month Ducati warranty with their s/h bikes.

    DUCATI 1198 1198 cc 1198S

  18. The dash just says '1198 Race Evo'. Which was the initial alarm bell an no S was showing.

  19. You 2 should sort out a deal between you both. One wants to buy and one wants to sell. ffs ;-) And the price differential between the 2 is not that far off

  20. I'm goin for a PCP deal with deposit so won't happen....... Gutted. Maybe I should just save and put off till after Xmas for a 100% cash deal. Summers gone anyway haha
