848 What Spring For Ohlins Ttx Rear Shock

  1. Just won a bid on ebay for a new Ohlins TTX shock which I will fit to my 848EVO
    It hasn't arrived yet but I can see from the photo that the spring in it is:

    21040-29-90.

    Now atm I have a standard Showa shock in the bike which I believe to be the oem shock and it is far too hard. I have backed off all the pre-load, but there is almost zero sag. Some research I did a few months ago found the Ducati fit a 90Nm spring as standard.

    I weigh 13 stone/85kgs/185Lbs wearing all my riding gear.

    I'm unsure what spring would suit me best. I want it primarily for road riding.

    any advice appreciated.

    Hello John. Thank you for your email. The Öhlins shock comes with a 21040-24/80 standard. This spring rate would be more suitable to your weight. The spring you have is for 250# rider & heavier!
    Please call us to arrange for a new spring to be installed onto your Öhlins shock. This would normally be free of cost with valid sales receipt.

    I have spent several hours looking at charts, some say 75, some 80,some 85. Can't get a definitive figure!

    tbh I'm confused!

  6. if you are riding it on the road then it will all be a bit of a compromise as your preload will be quite loose to allow for all the bumps and potholes.....where you set your preload at for you and the bike will determine the correct rate for the spring.

  9. O.K I have skim read most of the articles relative to 848 suspension on Ducatiupnorth, this seemed the most relevant.
    I'm experiencing brain fade now, I'll give it a rest for the moment, try again another day.
     
  10. Had the same issue with my 848 evo, JHS couldn't get any sag into it. I bought a Ohlin's rear shock and it was no better. I had a 10.5 on my daytona and it was perfect, so it's not just about the spring load but more the amount the spring is 'pre-loaded' and from what JHS were say no you can't get the spring far enough up the body of the shock to get enough sag in it.

    I actually wound the spring off as far as I could when I re-fitted the standard shock but It was still pretty hard. :-(

    Tbh I would recommend a custom shock as I think the standard Ohlins doesn't do the trick and the standard Showa is junk.

  11. How to remove rear shock on 848

    All bolts removed , now for the life of me I can't manage to remove the shock, it's binding on the frame tube, seems like overall length is 5mm too long. Bike is up on abba stand swing arm can't go any lower. What am I found wrong ?[​IMG]

  13. why cant the swing arm go any lower......because of the floor? maybe you need to lift the bike higher so the swing arm can go lower then it would clear........i would put a couple of inches of wood under the abba stand.......
     
  14. The reason the swing arm not dropping lower is not the wheel touching the ground, there is at least 15 mm clearance, I've just realized the arm is restricted from dropping further because it's hitting the mid pipes.
