Once the bike gets here tomorrow (first Ducati) I'll have a list as long as my arm of things to get for it. On the list will definitely be a tail tidy. What ones do you have on yours? Any pictures? I've usually gone down the R&G route but they are £100 plus. Is this the normal price for Ducati stuff. Cheers Ben
Anyone got one of these? Any good? Ducati 1098 Evotech Performance Tail Tidy 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 | eBay
I've got a 1098 and it's only the second bike that I haven't put a tail tidy on, there's nothing wrong with the standard one in my opinion.
Can I interest you in this? Brand new and unused, bought to stick on my track bike for a daytime MOT, decided I can't be arsed. Comes with an LED number plate light. I have trial fitted it and your std indicators will fit and a legal No. plate will fit nicely between them, so no need to fart about with extenders! £35 inc the P&P...Paypal gift....
I've got the Evotech one. Good bit of kit. Well made and looks better than the standard. Its a bit shorter although not much. This should give you some idea
I've got an Evotech one too. I had it fitted before I collected the bike but it's neat and I like it a lot. Only thing is... it makes the indicators look massive so now I want to put minis on (which I don't like) or hide them in the tail unit.
Thanks for the help chaps. I am with you andyp79. I do like the evotech unit but the lights do look far too big. Minis would be a must or like you said hide them in the tail unit. Any one got any pics of this being done? Nelson, Thanks for the offer but I think I'm sold on the Evotech idea at the moment.
This is the thing though... the rear of these bikes look so brilliant that once you start looking at it, you just want to junk the whole lot. "That mudguard, I don't need that. It can go, I'll get a tail tidy. Hmmm. Those indicators look really big. Maybe I don't need them? Ah, that number plate... wonder if I can just take it off?" I am contemplating the indicators in the tail option but can't really face faffing with the wiring. There's a thread on here somewhere about how to do it I think.
Cheers I'll take a look. I'm with you on the looks of the bike. I think all bikes look better with minimal stuff at the back. I think I'll probably go down the route of just a plate and hide the indi's at some point but the Evotech will be a good start. Mr AliT, Thanks for the picture. That is one shiny bike! What size plate is that?
Try this one. Not quite sure it's the one I remember but worth a read. http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f93/tidying-up-rear-end-my-1098-a-2273/index2.html
i bought one of these, cheap as chips DUCATI FENDER ELIMINATOR TAIL TIDY 848 1098 1098S BLACK 2H | eBay took about 10 days to come but worth the wait for £20
Just come across the Melotti version on that thread and that has blown the lot out of the water. Very expensive but looks the dogs danglies. I want one. Who's got some more pictures of these?
I had a Merlotti on my Mv Agusta 312r A lovely well made but of Kit,got it of a Italian importer. I think I paid about £130 for it. I really don't understand why people buy a quality expensive exotic bike & then bolt 20 quids piece of Tat to it !!!! Just my opinion btw
Because you can't see it on a 1098, which in my mind gives me 80 quid to spend on something you can see
I polished the exhausts..... Not really worth it as the first hint of water and they tarnish. Theres lots of threads on this....heres mine: http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f93/848-exhaust-polishing-18368/ Number plate? Standard size officer
FWIW I'm not sure about the indicators in the air-vents solution. I think its a nice idea to tidy up the rear but I'm not sure about how visible they are to dozy drivers. Having said that, I've followed a couple or riders with them on and they never lost me!
Late as usual I have a Melotti on my 1098, I had the R&G but had problems with it. It's fabricated by "folding" it, a sort of 2 piece cantilever design. This is fastened together at the number plate end using the number plate light which due to vibes cracked into 2 pieces. I replaced the number plate light with an item from MPS which had a light metal backing strip and this was fine, although I had to glue some shrink wrap around the outside of it as it showed a white light to the rear without the sleeve. The bike fell off the sidestand (Ok mea culpa it probably wasn't down correctly ). Anyway at that time it holed a Termi and bent the R&G tailtidy. The Termis were replaced by QD cans (cheaper, better quality but not quite so boomy as the Termis and I prefer the look) and a Melotti tidy. I think I got the tail tidy from Design Corse but my link now no worky. The Melotti site shows a couple of UK dealers MELOTTI SPECIAL PARTS I put Kellerman Trapeziodal indicators on (with short stocks to remain legal). All quite pricy but great quality. Couple of other things, I believe that indicators in the gauze air vents are illegal and although not part of the MOT you know how it goes with some testers. A sharp plod also could pull you for them. If you go the Melotti route make sure you ask them to ship you the older style number plate light the later version shows a white to the rear and needs modifying if you want to stay legal (again a PIA at MOT time), the older more rounded version does not. If I get some time later I'll see if I get some pics to show the tidy and the different number plate lights John
Oh meant to add the only other quality one that I found (although I prefer the Melotti) is Rizoma which may be worth a look John
John, great info that thanks. If you can dig out some pictures that would be great. I'm Defo going down the Melotti route. May have to save for wee while first tho as it's been an expensive month. I'd be interested to see the difference in the older shape LED light tho so I know I'm ordering the best one when I get round to it. Now I've seen the Melotti with it's small indicators I don't see the need to hide them in the vents anymore. The one I looked at on eBay had the whole kit included with Indi's etc. is that the kit you got? 171124593380 eBay item number?? Thanks again Ben
