I've never been to Hull, convince me its worth a weekend trip.... BBC News - City of Culture 2017 Hull takes 'its rightful place'
So are you saying that being award the City of Culture award just means they pick pretty grim places and give the local councils a deadline for cleaning the place up?
It's not actually UK City of Culture til 2017, the city of culture for 2013 is Derry/Londonderry, which was voted for in 2010. No, I don't understand either.
So I guess the main theme here is that Hull is a shithole... Doesn't surprise me... So is Grimsby, even by name!
Do I detect a bit of jealousy ye Hull is a shithole and this wont make the slightest difference like most towns in the country that are full of scum that need shooting, you cant polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter.......yes I am.
I lived and worked in hull for over 10 years. its not a place you can hit by accident - you have to want to go there. it has god awful run down social housing and many run down industrial estates just look at the state of clive sullivan way as you enter from the M62. its a dump. it has been picked to attract investment imho its nothing to do with it being a desirable place to visit. the city centre is ok but thats where it stops really. not any nice architecture to speak of unlike other cities. ooh the hull truck theatre and the hull truck theatre. did i tell you about the hull truck theatre...talk about the only talking point they say on TV pmsl... council estates are huge and amongst the worst in the region go through preston road estate, bransholme estate and orchard park the 3 main estates that make up the bulk of housing in hull. all dumps full of druggies and riddled with crime. I think it has more to do with attracting needed investment, than any deserved merit as the city stands in its entirety as it is.... if thats the case fine and good luck
You make some great points there Phill, but I will say I'd love to visit The Deep The Deep Aquarium - Hull, Yorkshire | Visitor Attraction & Business Centre
Seems to me to be a rather over-elaborate way of making the local council spend the money they should have been spending in the first place...
