1200 What to look for on a Mutley?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Force-v4, Mar 21, 2014.

  1. Hey lads and lasses, a mate of mine is looking to flog his S1000RR and buy a mutley and I know there have been some issues. I think he's looking at an 11/12 so chances are it'll be out of warranty. As there's only one main Ducati dealer here in Ireland he's hoping not to have to visit too often! I told him I'd ask the good folk here for some advice before he went purchasing! Cheers Jay

  2. As long as the servicing is bang up to date and any/all recalls and warranty work has been carried out he'll be fine

  3. Jay,

    Which dealer is it?

  4. He's hoping to buy privately I'd say but presume he'll be using Ducati Dublin or Robbie in Mototechnic

  5. I opted for an extended warranty (which I worked into the deal on the bike anyway making it cost me nout) of 2 years for peace of mind from a main dealer. 12 Plate too.

  6. Got ya. I bought mine from Millsport in Ballymoney and was going to suggest giving Billy a call there if the bike was originally purchased up North? He'd be able to give you the low down on what servicing/warranty work etc had been carried out. I suspect Ducati Dublin would do the same. Regardless of where the Mutley came from it should be on the Ducati system which any official dealer can access.

If your mate's buying privately then ask the seller if they've had any of this work done ie:

    1. Back brake upgrade
    2. Anti-freeze change
    2. Front fork shims inserted
If they have, then it shows they've had an interest in looking after the bike if nothing else. Oh, and check if the exhaust valve open/closes smoothly on turning on the ignition (there's a thread on it here). if it's not then a test ride will let you know soon enough.

There's more and probably better advice about to be added by others but that's my two pence worth. Hopefully he'll find what he's looking for.

  8. im thinking of selling mine if hes interested.
    2011 touring
with carbon fibre sports model pack
    7000+ MILES
    full history with milsport
    all recalls done
    lots of extras

  9. If your mate's a tall lad then there's a bit more room for the rider on the 2012 model year bikes, they shortened the pillion seat a tad....

  10. Clocks, switchgear, radiator, bottom of front forks, engine water and oil leaks, they are some off the things that went wrong with mine and are quite common on here as a fault, engines are also going pop, I sold mine before it did, it threw oil out onto the header pipes and Ducati said there was nowt wrong! FFS get a warranty, I would not buy privately.

  11. Cheers lads, I mentioned to him there is issues to watch out for and its exactly the reason I posted this thread. He was hoping to swap his S1000RR for ne but by the sound of it he's better off selling his beemer privately and buying the 'strada from a dealer with a warranty.
