Hi guys, Sorry if this has been asked before, I did have a quick flit through the forum but didnt see any thing that was relevant. I'm thinking of buying a new Multistrada 1200 S Touring in the near future but can decide what helmet I should buy. I did have an R1 2 years ago untill I had an accident and almost lost my left leg (not my fault btw). So I'm looking for something with abit more leg room hence the 1200S. My wife and I are planning on doing a bit of touring and following the BSB around the UK on it, I will also be using it as a weekend bike for the twistys for when I'm out solo. So my question is do I stick with a full face sports helmet like my Shark RSI or do I go for an adventure type helmet like a Shoei Hornet DS? I do tend to ride a bit fast so I'm a bit concernd that a peaked helmet might give me a few head nodding problems when I'm showing the local Gixer brigade what it's like to lose. Another concideration is I'm also thinking of getting an on bike intercom so I can hear the wife screem, do you get more wind noise from a peaked helmet? Thank in advance for any advice Joe
I'd save the DS helmets for the more "adventurous" bikes like the GS, Super Tenere etc the latter of which I have and whilst I use a Shoei Hornet for shorter runs, I tend to revert back to normal full face for longer rides as its a lot more comfortable on the head and neck, due to the bobbing effect the DS peaked helmets tend to suffer from at m-way speeds etc.
I run both types on my MTS (RX7GP and TourX). The TourX is actually quieter than the GP, and provided you get the peak set correctly it doesn't bob in the wind. Just replaced my TX (now 6yo) with a Hornet DS, but I'm not getting on with it tbh. If it doesn't get refunded, I may have an as-new XL in black up for sale shortly!
I have a DS as one of my helmets. The only time the peak gets caught in the wind is when doing the safety look over the shoulder. Its very cool (as in temperature) in the summer months and great field of vision. I may sell it though as I feel a bit of a tit in it as I dont go "adventuring"
I have the same on my Multi, I much prefer the Tour-X as it is quieter and with the screen the air just seems to go over the peak.
Ok then, tnx chaps, some good replys there. I will stick to my Shark for now then. until I get to go Adventuring
G'Day, After testing a Schuberth C3 flip-helmet for two days in various conditions and speeds, bought a racing-red one yesterday, my first flip-helmet...... Schuberth C3 with SRC Blue-Tooth System C3 | Schuberth GmbH SRC | Schuberth GmbH
Could be worth looking into, I like the look of the mat black one but not sure how easly the flys will come off it.
I had the S1 and it's like having a duvet on your head really comfy quiet and warm Don't let it fall off your bike I was gutted And the red was an exact match with my bike
