thinking of letting my 749 go and getting an 848 My 749 is on a 57 plate so one of the last registered I imagine lost of tasteful mods full termi asymetric system and dp ecu, carbon hugger, heel plates , heat shield and exhaust cover, oberon brake and clutch caps oberon clutch slave cylinder and dp carbon and billet fuel cap Now do i sell it private with all the bits on or put it all back to stock and sell all the bits on here ebay ect ect
You'll likely get more for it if you sell a stock bike and the bits separately. Stock bike should sell easier and for around the same price as with the bits. The (right) bits should realise around 50% of new price if they're in good condition.
I have just sold my 1098. I took the carbon, levers, seat, rearsets etc off and sold them on ebay. I sold the bike separately as standard with just the termi's on and recon I made £500-600 more selling the bike and bits separate. When people look at bike adverts they quickly look at age, mileage and price and thats how they compare your's to other bikes. The extra's make the bike easier to sell but not necessarily worth more.
I had a 749s for a while, was my first Ducati  Used it for Sunday blast & went to Germany, North Italy & p!xy Austria ( where the ppl are rude as """k - Ausatria ). Anyway, I recently got a used 848. I love it. The 749 & it are completely different. The drive and feeling form the engine are in the DNA but different bikes. I have to say I am happy enough, i love it. I do miss the 749, Id be lying if I said I didnt. If you have had the 749 why not trade up. Try get a good decent spin from a mate or a dealer. One thing I did notice, the 848 is a little harder on juice.
Defo sell your bits seperate I've lost a fortune on a couple of bikes selling with trick bits on and getting no extra for the bike. I won't be doing that again
This is what happens when you sell a bike with 'tasteful mods' on it: Some cad like me comes along and offers a lower price cos it's non-standard. Then he strips all the tat off and sells it for surprisingly good prices, and buys the standard bits for remarkably cheap prices. Then he sells the now standard bike for a profit. I love people who festoon their bikes with aftermarket tat
I agree with Matt. If you do sell, flog the bits separately. I found this out the hard way - twice. I got zero for the extras on my Daytona 600 when I sold it and would've got £300 or so for them. Then tried to sell my GSXR with the extras fitted for a decent price and got absolutely no interest at all in it for about 3 months, other than people who seemed to want to try and wind me up or just plain offend me with their stupid offers. I put it back to stock and it sold straight away, flogged the bits seperately and got an extra chunk of cash. It was a lovely example as well, but it seems the extras put people off. One thing with Ducatis though, I'd leave the Termis on as they definitely make it more attractive to a buyer and I think I might be right in saying you may get a little extra with them on.
Thanks for all the advice , would love too keep the 749 and get the 848 but funds just don't stretch to it :frown: So if I do sell think it will be a return to stock and look for a trade in from a dealer and sell all the bits separate but was out on the 749 and loved it, so still not sure
I'm in the same boat, would love to have kept my Speed Triple, it's been a hoot but I've wanted a Ducati again for ages & I've neither the funds or space for both
Back to std and sell bits seperately. Leave maybe cans on so that i stands out and makes more saleable: wont get you more money but likley sell quicker.
loaned an 848 from Moto Italia Lincoln when my 999s in for a service....I wouldn't change. Riding position too cramped (I am tall mind) and throws weight onto your wrists. 999s has a lot of adjustment (whole seat unit moves back) so dont know if 848 can be tweaked to fit. Nose down stance tho' wont change
