Ok, so I ride a TL1000 everyday keeping my 996 as a track bike. But... I want a change and do love Ducatis. Newish stuff is out the question, and I want to steer away from sports bikes and a 1000DS with the ohlins seems something I could play with. But what are they actually like guys? Can I have some advise please?
It's a very, very good bike. The motor pulls very well from low revs. Plenty or torque. Handling is good. Not the worlds quickest bike but very accomplished. if you've only had sports bikes, you may find the position a little strange, but it lets you see the road ahead.
Torque laden fun. Loved the motor in my old Numpty and if I reckon a lightweight 1000DS would be a fab track weapon
Well this is a good start. I've had supermotos and enduro bikes before and except for filtering with wide bars thought they were great. I'd love an 1100 hyper but a DS would be more pleasing to my bank manager and look more versatile.
Are you talking multistrada? Tbh I found it one of the easiest bikes to wheelie, come up on the throttle from low revs in first two gears no problem, but you could chug around in 6th all day just as easily. Sure runs out of puff at 130 ish and fast sweepers its very vague but its quick enough to keep up with most
Yh a multistrada 1000. I kind of enjoyed the death weave of my old DR650 above 80mph, made it interesting. I do need to slow down a bit, I'm a twat, but still want something interesting and usable.
Tbh the multi doesn't have that, I have a Dr650 so know all about it ;-) it just gets vague. But thats not the point of the bike. its easy to ride, fun and functional and a great motor. I found a little uncomfy tbh but I had a sciatic problem at the time and it made it worse. And the front brakes are shite too.
There must have been something wrong with yours Bradders. Mine are spot on. They're the same as on the 916/996 no?
Yep, my TL1000S did exactly the same to me 3 imprisonable offences within a month (got away with all 3 thankfully) meant I had to sell the Suzuki before I did something I regretted. The fuglystrada does exactly the same as the TL but without the stupid speeds; loads of bottom end grunt and a lovely visceral feel, the best B-road blaster I've ever had. It might look a bit like an adventure bike but it's nothing of the sort, it's a tall sportsbike. Interesting and usable indeed, I'd happily recommend one. If you look at one, have a good hard look at the dashboard - if there are any lcd segments missing start knocking the price down heavily, the dash is on the way out and they cost a bomb to replace; usual paint-falling-off-the-engine malarky, the tank takes skill to fill to the brim, and it'll be deathly uncomfortable to start with (but you get used to it). Stick some proper road tyres on and have a blast!
I would go for an 1100s with a Termignoni if you can .....loads of fun and easy maintenance. Multistrada.net :: Home for any technical help you might need lots of sport bike riders have swapped and found them to be quite a hoot to ride, I think because of the "heads up" riding position.
i got one and echo Figaros sentiments . i love it and cant bare to part with it . i done serious tours on mine and commuting and sunday thrashes with my mates who where all on jap crotch rockets .and they dont embarrase me .i find it really comfy great riding position .good tyres make it a lean monster the torque is really usable .range is good but dont take any notice of the fuel gauge its a joke .... and i cover the clocks with a plastic bag any sign of rain lol .. yes from the front its ugly from behind with its twin cannons its lovely ..i've had R1 blades ninjas ..but this is second in my list of favourite bikes its different has character and a soul
+1 to Androids advice. A well looked after and maintained 1100S would be a great bike and you should be able to find at a good price. Try and get one with the cat removed and you will have a very capable machine with loads of soul and character. You'll be going slower (apart from the corners) but feeling you're going fast so great for licence preservation
Well it sounds I'm finally making a sensible choice then and will have to start seriously looking while the cold keeps the prices lower. Now, if i could just sell my GSXR1100 I could be on one for Christmas. The TL will probably stay though, too much fun, and won't be losing money now. Thanks for the info guys, good to hear there's no real issues with them apart from suspect dash. My 996 puts out 90 odd lb/ft of torque so bikes I can afford all seem a little wanting. But for my daily needs, a multi seems more and more perfect.
Just check the dash as the others have said. The LCD shouldn't have bits missing, all the idiot lights should be present and correct and do check the backlight.
Have riddens everal multis and all the same, shit brakes. Funny that they are the same as the sports bikes, reckon its this silly rotors...
mine work fine? but i aint no pro. dont see how changing the disk can help. happy to be enlightened tho.(not trying to be argumentative)
