What's this a description of?

  1. Flying at, I guess 500 ft altitude...............Very like a modern glider; without a bulge at the front end for a cockpit; very wide wingspan but narrow wings; no additional kink for extra dihedral in the wings; single tail fin (I think); flying very slowly (I thought it might even stop); but with a quiet engine noise.........I couldn't see anything like a propelleor nacelle.

    No other aircraft around......

...so was it a 'powered' glider? (didn't look flimsy enough)

.......Was it some sort of microlight? (their engines are pretty noisy) and it looked far too big for one of them...

    ....or.........seeing as I am not far from R*F Wa**isham and R*F W**dbridge.........something being tested?

  2. A form of UAS, possibly scan eagle, which has just been bought by the navy. They might do their training there. Anything of the size you describe is normally in the army's remit, under the RA.

  3. I thought that too...........wings too straight across for a scan eagle though..........and no wingtip fins (I think)........

.........when I first saw it, I didn't think 'glider', I immediately thought 'U2' (and then I realised Bono hasn't got a pilot licence) because of the shape, but I couldn't see engine nacelles etc.....

  5. Don't think so, it looked much larger................perhaps it was a model only at 50'-0" high............

  6. There are only certain areas of the uk that UAS can be flown at the moment. Not sure if there is one of them.

  7. I have got a photo of it but it was too far away before I found the bl**dy camera..............you can just about make out a shape and wingspan, but it looks like there are things on one of the wing (engines) which there weren't when it was right above me.

This plane had a wingspan which I reckon exceeded that of a pro glider quite easily.

  8. Reaper? But you said it had a single tail so counts that one out.

  9. Looks like a very large glider in Suffolk???
