I've always wondered what ones no claims bonus is actually worth. The whole insurance system seems very dubious to me. Anyway, I was looking to insure a extra bike on my riders policy but because it's relatively modern it pushed the price up a lot and I had already checked out how much it would be to insure on its own so I went that route. The price quotes was 134 pounds per year and I took out insurance online but then realised I had said I have 10 years+ no claims when in reality it is a new extra contract so I have NO no claims bonus. I rang the insurance to explain and change, expecting quite a hike in price. To make it clear, nothing changed other than I don't have no claims to my name on that contract. The new price was........... Drumroll.......... 128 pounds. 6 Pounds less!
NCD, imho is just an arbitrary figure used when calculating a premium. It is also the last in the equation, so basic risk, loading, loading, more loading and oh an aftermarket exhaust, loading then the arbitrary ncd then TAX. hth!
One thing's for certain in life for me anyway,i never ever protect the No Clains Bonus on the policy being taken out by wasting money on insurance top ups,all my vehicles have FULL PLUS no claims and that's a lot of years being a good boy keeping my nose clean.
