Wheelies....

  1. The unintentional kind.

Does anyone else find their SS is quite prone to lifting the front wheel? I've never had a bike thats quite so keen to lift, especially coming out of the many roundabouts in Milton Keynes. I'm no heavyweight at 69kg - should I eat more pie?

  2. 1098R drop 1 tooth on the gearbox sprocket ,how can it not wheelie?
Keep a good stock of fork seals

  3. Unless its a 1000 ss you're doing well to Power wheelie it

  4. I've had my SS lift the front wheel when enthusiastically changing from 1st to 2nd :upyeah:

  5. Only once when I had a pillion and I had gone down a tooth in the front. Corrected itself when pillion nearly fell off and grabbed onto me for dear life. "I knew what I was doing" I said when we got off the bike. Couldn't be any further from the truth.

  6. i haven't had anything wheelie on me...
i do like to sit forwardly... and at 110KG ' nothing will ift easily, now won't it... :)

  7. Yep, I have the same, though with me at 100kg it stays fairly low.

  8. 28mph, 1st, snap throttle shut then wide open, comes up easy

  9. My SS wheelied incredibly well with the ex as pillion!

Didnt seem to faze her either? Having said that she spent most of her youth as pillion on her Mum's Guzzi, where she would regularly fall asleep for long periods... Apparently it "made the trip less boring"

  10. Don't think mine ever lifted but my SS loved roundabouts and felt like it lightened on the front end :)
It's the only time I was confident on exiting a bend

  11. something must be horribly wrong with my SS, front wheel is firmly planted on the ground

only bike I ever had do an unintentional wheelstand on was a bsa 650, was well impressed with that and vowed never to sell a bike that good

  12. 1st gear front wants to lift all the time, 2nd as you accelerate and 3rd will come up depending on revs.
2nd - 3rd short shifting is quite fun  It's more like a motocrosser!

  13. I take it no 103mph wheelies then?

  14. Pablo you do have a surfit of torque and power on your "superlight" compared with cooking SS's.

I've only managed to get the front wheel pattering once which was just after John Baines had serviced it. The problem my 900 has is the 130Kg lump it has for a rider:redface:

  15. My 750 will lift the front about four to six inches when given a big grab of throttle.

    AL

  16. it probably doesn't hurt that i'm barely 5' 8" and weigh 150 lbs.. (just weighed myself at 68.5 kg) in other words i'm the size and weight of the average 14 year old.... it would appear ride weight is a big factor here - the SS's are just on the cusp of lifting up, so a light rider has the front wheel pattering / lifting quite a bit, where as slightly more substantial riders keep them planted.

  17. Come on! Speed limit is 70mph!!!

Even before the ST3 incarnation the bike had the power to wheelie, more so with Hi-comp pistons.

  18. Ooh I must try mine out when its rebuilt , its got High Comp Pistons and I'm 5'11" and weigh around 145lbs , I used to be up for a wheelie or two in my youth untill it became non PC LOL
Even featured in a safety film for Gulf oil back around 1980 , my job was to pull wheelies on a SP370 and ride like a T**t , all with Glouscesterhire constabulary in attendence , Priceless !

  19. Interesting subject. I can tell you that with my weight at 136 lbs, my 750ss grows fangs when I ride it. One of the few times when being light pays off. Save tons of money too. No Chipping, Macaroni exhaust, Pasta pistons, etc. All the bucks go to mainenance items and new Y fronts.

  20. Does that mean that if I'm not wheelying my 999 I'm riding like a granny?
