Where Do You Carry Your Disc Lock?

Discussion in 'Monster' started by dubcat, Apr 26, 2019.

  1. My disc lock (abus) would fit in the under seat storage of my 848 just about, alongside the toolkit. I was very surprised to see just how little storage there is on the Monster 1200 R!

I hate to go anywhere without my disc lock. At the same time I don't really want to keep it in my pocket as I reckon it would make a nice dent in me if i come off.

How/where you are you guys carrying your disc lock?

  2. Buy one of the roadloc jobbies off the fella on here, expensive but well worth it and all you carry is a pin and a key.

  3. Those look pretty good! Which bloke is selling them? Mega bucks I'm guessing..

  4. I agree with Bradders but I don't have one. I do have a small GIVI tank-loc system tank bag and use that for the disk lock/phone/glasses/wallet/keys etc etc that I don't want in my pockets.

ps. I can also get my sandwiches and a spare pair of undies in there:D

  5. I think I found him - Billy Big Roy?

  6. Yep that's him. Bolt on and leave. Pin under seat or in your pocket, lock and leave. Cant ride off still in place either! £175 iirc?? Think @Bumpkin got his insurance co to give him a discount too?

  7. Yes, that's him, great bit of kit,

  8. Yeah that's awesome. I'll get that! Thanks.

  9. They are a good bit of kit. I went for the right hand side fitment. Easier to operate with bike leaning on side stand.

  10. Unless you have a Scrambler.

  11. Whilst the Roadlock does qualify for insurance discount with some insurers* Ramesis told me that only the first qualifying divice listed would count. As I also have a bike trac tracker, which was fitted by the supplying dealer, that's what I got a little discount for. If bike was stolen without the roadlock engaged for some reason then I'd still be covered. In my case my insurers wouldn't have provided cover without Bike Trac being fitted so it also made sense to have that as the listed security device.

    * I did read somewhere (on the Internetsso it must be true ) that the roadlock Thatcham listing had been withdrawn as they hadn't paid their annual sub. Also, interestingly, that the Ducati and KTM branded versions, despite essentially being the same product but branded, never were Thatcham approved as they have a different part number.

  12. Thx for the info. I’ve got my insurance for the year so the draw is less about that than losing the bike. I’m speaking to the roadlok chap later. I want to get a tracker too. Is bike track the best one?

  13. Sure, I wasn't trying to say that the roadlock isn't a good product. It's great, seems very secure and the convenience of the small pin ideal though still not something I'd carry in my pocket whilst riding TBH.

Bike Trac is the industry standard and recognised by insurance companies. It's expensive and needs approved fitting plus there's an annual subscription (I went for the 3 year cheaper in the long run sub).

I had a Chinese self fit tracker on my MV and TBH that had better features compared to the Bike Trac in terms of the web portal that, at the time, I paid £50 for a lifetime subscription. Tracker cost me about £60, GiffGaff PAYG SIM used less than £5 a year. If course not insurance recognised and no call centre that rings you when your bike is moved with the ignition off which I've 'tested' on quite a few occasions with the Bike Trac... I got mine from RewireSecurity who were very good on the support front when I had questions about setup, the Web portal and SIM cards (I didn't use the one they were offering, GiffGaff worked out far cheaper).

Anyway, my insurer insisted on Bike Trac as a condition of cover as currently my bike us parked outside under a cover.

  15. I’ve got a Monimoto alarm on mine.... don’t think it contributes much adds as far as insurance premiums go tho....

  16. I reckon trackers are of limited use now....quite simply the police do not have the resources to follow a stolen bike anymore...as my friends have found out. Bike nicked in central london, police alerted immediately, with live route info, for nearly an hour the owner was on the phone to police who constantly said all tracking fitted units were busy so unable to help. Once the van went into a tunnel the signal was lost...never to be seen again.

  17. But you live in bandit country ;)

  18. Very True ET,and insurance is getting bloody tricky too. But the news this week is about the Bike Angels helping recover stolen bikes in scallywag territories.

BTW i have the Roadlok which is a brilliant bit of kit as available on the forum from billybigroy.Expertly fitted by him too.

  19. Spoke to Billybigroi today - am going to have him fit one asap.

  20. If you really want to splash out the cash,...ducati now do their own expensive branded roadlok

Which is kind of acknowledgement that this device (I got mine in a group buy on here) is very well respected & recommended.
