Big day today - the first proper outing for my 848 this year even if it was just going in to work. After travelling only about a mile the fuel warning light came on so I stopped to fill up but here's the funny thing.... When I put my bike away for the winter I made sure the tank was full to the brim and, apart from starting it up 3 or 4 times during the winter and letting the engine warm up until the fan cuts in, I've only done 15 miles since then. Where has all the petrol gone? There have been no puddles on the garage floor or a smell of petrol near the bike. Would running the engine until it was up to temperature 3 or 4 times really use up 110 miles worth of petrol?
Perhaps with the price of petrol someone has been siphoning it off. If petrol continues to go up in price, soon a tankful will be more valuable than my bike.
Possible in the carburettor days but not in the fuel injection era . You need pressure to get it out of the injectors. I think youve been sleep riding similar to walking but on the bike.
beat me to it - this was/is a common explanation for standing bikes particularly carburretor'ed ones. Not sure how it could happen on an injected bike but it's an easy check to look in the level sighting window or have a sniff of the oil filler plug 'ole. EDIT overlooked post #8 ^
it happened me with my rc30 gulp.......never even clicked that injected would be different...duh me stupid
