Where to stick ?

  1. In the nicest possible way, where is the best place to attach an action camera on a track bike ? I have a 748R and a Drift Ghost that came with sticky pads and a suction cup mount. Thanks, Andy

  2. Under the front fairing, copious use of valcro or, or its a track nose cone, add cable ties. Altho my mate loves putting it on the side of his fairing. I also like thru the screen, as you get a view of revs and gears so makes it a learning experience, but I'm an anal twat when it comes to that :upyeah:

  3. Be careful if fitting under the front/nose fairing as under full braking there is not much clearance...

  4. You'd be surprised. I have fitted 996, race monster, 848 all like that and never an issue. And that was with a Drift Ghost which is fairly large

  5. You wont be allowed on with the suction cup. Use the flat sticky mounts, but mount them so the recess is pointing up. Put it on at least 24hrs before you mount the camera too. Make sure the camera clicks into place before you head out for the ride. The glue on those things wont fail, but you will end up having to leave the mount on the side of the bike.
If you have a mic, get that under the fairing and get the actual mic bit near the back of the bike, away from the wind noise. The Drift is also far more aerodynamic that the Go Pro :upyeah:

  6. Moved to gadgets

  7. does it stick better there and whats the wind noise like...

  8. As Mc says 'make sure it clicks in place' I lost a week old GOPro of the back of my track bike in Portimao after not ensuring it was properly fitted.

  9. That depends how big hte camera is. GoPro is quite big and I bet that one would have potential to hit mud-guard.

  10. The OP has a Drift, not a go pro. Stick a GP under the fairing and it will get destroyed imo

as an aside, i know Td companies are not too keen on GP because they are often littered all over the place!

  11. Just my experience I would not use Velcro

What you want is Dual Lock................Like Velcro on steroids & loads of other uses too

    Not cheap mind

    3M Dual Lock

You will get cheaper off the Bay of Fleas no doubt but 2 things to remember there are different types with different strengths (I go for the highest I can get) and it may be some seconds or unwanted supplies lying around for ages in which case the glue may be duff too.

As Matt said get the area scrupulously clean before applying and leave to bond for at least 24 hours

One more thing is apply tethers (AKA lanyards) you can make them up from fishing leaders at your local tackle shop or buy some paracord types. Loads on BoF will make up what you need when you know your lengths & the Marshals just may smile on you a bit more if they see you are using belt and braces to stop littering the track with broken gadgets.
