With so many out there, which one do you have? Are the go pro's worth the money? I have seen a few poor reviews. Hitachi appear to be offering a similar one for half the price, anyone tried one? Are the drift camera's any good etc? Please tell us what you have and if you like it or not, any footage links on youtube which you have posted etc? Thanks, Phil
Don't fart about just get a Gopro, I had the Veho Muvi Gumball edition blah blah blah. I kept it for a year and even though it was ok the quality just was not there.
What about the drift 1080 ? Quite like the idea of the remote wristband and they appear to be around the £200 mark. Anyone have one?
I don't shoot 1080 any more. I'm onto 2.7k. (Unless i want to slum it on 1080) It works really nicely in the dark and with a 64gb card I get 3 hours footage on a GPHD 3.
i did loads of reserch before buying mine and i went tor the Gopro 3 silver best for the money and if you shop around you will get agood deal i paid £199 inc post from a seller on ebay that is over £70 lower than book and it was new ,and wile i was bidding i saw bidders spening more than that on second hand Gopro hero2s . the 3 did have a software problem so you do have to do an upgrade as soon as you get it but it is smaller lighter than the 2
Have used a Drift HD Ghost for the past couple months. Filming and photo quality is superb. A few factors that swung it for me over a GoPro: 1) The remote. Unbelievably easy to use and it gives constant visual identification of what mode you are in using a colour LED (photo, video, burst, time lapse) without having to look at the actual camera unit or a small LCD screen. You can switch between modes in an instant eg: photo to video to photo again, and this is a feature I used a great deal to capture a couple of photo shots before switching to video. Photo quality is excellent. The remote is recharged using the same USB port as the main Drift unit - simple and convenient. 2) Rotatable lens. The lens rotates through 360degrees in relation to the body of the camera. So you can mount the body at an angle (eg, fairing) and then rotate the lens to get a level position. 3) Sleek design. Unlike a GoPro, the Drift is sleek and aerodynamic. I have heard too many stories of GoPros getting detached at high speed because it is like a an awkward brick that catches the wind. No such problem with the Drift. GoPros also just look... awkward. 4) External power. Drift has the easy option of continual power supply - either wired in, or via an external battery pack. Using the external battery pack, I was able to power the Drift for an entire day's skiing from 9am-4pm in minus-20 degree weather. 5) Built in screen. Dead easy to replay on the unit. 6) Software to sync up with the iPhone. The Drift creates it's own Wifi zone, and you can view all footage directly on your iPhone, plus change the settings. Awesome. YMMV, but I've been very happy with the Drift so far. Video and photo quality is excellent.
LOL - is your point about my home made mount or the camera?Let's see when mounted on the helmet:
I was lol-ing at your mount it made me giggle a little  I do have to say you do seem to have a whole lot of stuff attached to that there 1098R
 that is my 'touring' set up as I'll be taking it on a bike tour this summer (first time I should add). The only addons are iPhone TomTom, camera remote control, camera+external mic, plus cabled power for all of it via twin USB ports hidden under the yoke.
I'm with you Mr C, I can't be bothered with all the faffing about, just do what the pro's do and get a GoPro. Fairly idiot proof (handy for me), takes great quality images/footage, has many different ways to mount it. I guess that's why it's the professionals choice.
Check this out, never used and no connection to it, but looks good Replay XD1080 HD Video Action Camera - Replay XD
I found this which is usueful for comparison Action Cameras Top Helmet Camera Review - Compare Head Cams I think if you type baron10 at the checkout you get a 10% discount. This brings the Drift HD Ghost to £269 delivered, i have not found a better price yet.
+1 I bought mine from Action Cameras using that code, and their service and pre-sales advice over the phone was excellent. I asked them directly between the GoPro, Ghost, Contour, Replay - and they had some good advice as to the pros/cons of each in real world use and results.
I have two go pro cameras. Wouldn't use anything else. Keep an eye out in argos. They have been selling the hd hero 2 for £179.99 and also sell off the attachments like the battery bac PAC and LCD screens.
