1260 Which New Chain And Sprocket Set ?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Sprocker, May 25, 2021.

  1. While lubing my chain before this mornings jolly I noticed one of the links was kinked. My bikes due a service so thought I'd get them to replace the chain and sprockets while they've got it.
Any recommendations on which to get ? I thought of going the 15/42 route too.

  2. Seems anything but standard gearing sprockets are special order and some very long waits for sprocket carriers if you want one, you can get sprockets that don’t require a carrier.

May be worth telephoning Bike Torque, very helpful and fair value. Better than most.

  3. 15/42 is highly recommended by most here.
The best chain really depends on what you're looking for.

  4. Thanks guys, I'm reading up on these and tending towards the gold DID 530 ZVMX X-Ring.
What about the sprockets? I'm thinking of upping the rear to a 42 to make it better around town but I'm not too clued up about sprocket carriers will I need to replace my original oem ? Are there different carriers for different sprockets ?

  5. There are different carriers for different sprockets. Afam sprockets do not need a carrier. I have recently just got a new C&S kit, many carriers out of stock along with non standard gearing sprockets, good luck, I lucked out on Fleabay getting a new unused standard Afam rear sprocket for £69.00, that about half price.

Another way is to drop front down a tooth, but my personal preference is to change the rear, I will get shit down in flames for saying that smaller front places more stress on gearbox drive etc, top Ducati specialists advised me, but it’s not what everyone agrees on.

As I mentioned before call Bike Torque for a chat, good honest bunch.

  6. Good choice on the DID Z, it will mostly likely last 10K miles more than any RK junk.

I ended up just replacing the sprockets with OEM ones (1200 Enduro) as there was very little choice...or there was a 18 mths ago.

Sprockets should be good for 2 chains but that's personal preference and how well you look after your chain, lube every 300, clean every 600, run it a little loose and the DID should see you to 25-30K.

  7. As @Michel wrote, many options are available. My rear solid steel one piece 42T is an Esjot sprocket from Germany.
    https://www.esjot.com/en/motorcycle-sprockets/
I got it from CarpiMoto in Italy. Good product and price.

If you want a quick change carrier, choices are endless.
I have Superlite brand on my Monster and also went +2R.
However, truth be told, the black quick change carrier is mostly for the bling as I'll never further change the gearing.

  8. I’m doing a swop on my mates 1260 this weekend. Just got the DiD zvmx today. Supersprox Black +2 rear & 15 run quiet front. £227 the lot. Not the cheapest but Esjot rears are a little thin on the ground.
I contacted a few shops who stated “in stock” but simply not the case.
Anyways, he’s paying and was happy enough.

  9. Glad you got sorted with the parts, I’m sure your mate will thank you

  10. Where did he order from Norm ?

  11. I ordered for him. My normal port of call would have been Carpimoto but they were out of the Esjot rear.
Additionally, customs charges were in the back of my mind. Hence sourcing UK side.
I'm sure, with patience I could have got it down below £200 but he's paying and he's minted!

    B&C Express for Front

    Calsport for rear

Huntersmotorcycles for 116 link ZVMX DiD

  12. Just to be clear, before I order chain, I would need 116 links for the 15/42 set ?
Bike parts UK list 114+1 for standard set-up. Does anyone know what the +1 means ? Screenshot_20210528-101951_Samsung Internet.jpg

  13. Sounds like it’s 114 links when upping rear +1.

And I take it you’re not ordering that lot.?

  14. I went for 116 as I can remove if too many etc. Plus price was very good.

  15. Haha no that was just a screenshot to show link numbers

  16. 114L is fine with +2 teeth on the rear, I ordered a 116 too but couldn't get the correct adjustment so took a couple of links off.

    • Thanks Thanks x 2
  17. I ordered a 120 to be safe and cut to size. The price difference is negligible.

  18. I've ordered 116 link from
    https://chainsandsprockets.co.uk/
Rear supersprox black from calsport uk and front from supersprox. I'll get them replaced when I book in for its service.

Thanks for all your help guys

  19. Just fitted new C&S's and quality is much better than standard chain and sprockets
Cost me a feckin fortune tho lol, new torque wrench, nut socket, impact wrench and chain splitter/riveter set . It would have been much cheaper to let Ducati dealer change them when it's in for its service, but at least I've got all the gear now for next time I change them :)
